CRB 1e and CRB 2e World and Universe creation Population

Mongoose
Morning PDT all,

To generate the population of a world both CRB 1e and CRB 2e roll 2D6-2 that returns a range of 0 to 10, the tables in both books have digits from 0 to 12.

How do you achieve digits 11 and 12?

The CRB 2e Population write-up, p. 219, references p. 228 which is the Trade Code descriptions and table with the planetary requirements for the trade codes.

What am I looking for on p. 228 that relates to population?

11 and 12 is for reference and use by the referee.

The page thing is a mistake. Someone already reported in the errata thread (or was it me? :D )

Thank you for the reply, clarification that the Population digits 11 and 12 are for referees' to use, and that the reference to p. 228 has been reported.

I checked the Traveller Errata sub-form started by donm61873 and the Errata list sub-form started by phavoc looking for any reference to p. 228. I'll check again since the web gremlins probably hid the post when I looked earlier.

Update:

Yep, the web gremlins hid the post you made that the page is 220 versus 228. Thank you again for the help.

Just to be scary, T5 lists population up to 'F'.

I have not yet purchased T5, but the system is on my very long wish list.

I vaguely recall a book with a ring world or something similar that could hold a population around 10^15. The question is how are the populations digit digits between 11 (B) to 15 (F) generated. That is what prompted my question, even though part of the question was answered on the Errata list sub-form started by phavoc.

Looks like I have two items to move further up the list and decide whether to buy HgT HG 2e or T5.

Thank you for the information about T5 population rules.

I roll 4D4-4.

A population code of 10 is already a huge number. We're talking tens of billions of beings on one world. For Mongoose Traveller, I'd say higher populations become a referee's plot device. T5 makes it a little easier to justify since it allows creation of world size F though you could still have quadrillions of beings on a size 1 world(!!) As with Traveller world generation in general, you need to be creative as to why a world is what it is. Why do you need a size 11 or 12 population?

As to deciding between Mongoose Traveller and T5, stick with Mongoose for ease of play. I have both... well actually, I have all versions of Traveller. I consider T5 an advanced textbook for the very serious Travellers who want tons of detail about everything Traveller. Seriously, vargrs are human-lupine chimeras?! Both are great and each has its highlights.

Thank you for the help and 4D4-4 does work.

Yes, tens of billions is a huge number and randomly generated statistics for NPCs, worlds, planetary systems, and a number of other items are referees and authors for scenarios plot devices. I agree that the referee and or author have to be creative in matching up the supporting characteristics and when they do not fit tinker with them to make them fit.

I have ten FFE softcover CT reprints and a a majority of the books for MT, TNE, T4, Traveller 2k and MgT 1e. The collection has the rough copies of the 13Mann Starter Traveller. I also have a combination of GDW Traveller 2300AD and 2300AD books. Until someone puts out another variant T5 is the only I do not have in my collection.

Thank you for the reply and thoughts on Traveller.

Oops, I forgot to include GURPS Traveller in my list.

I used to have all of Traveller. Now I just stick to Mongoose, and use Rule Zero (because... Referee).

I'll admit that I'm a hoarder of outdated games of all types, books (mainly science fiction), and music CDs. The games I've attempted to learn the rules.
