When firing a unit / model that can create different FZs in the same shoot action? Should all dice be rolled at the same time, or all dice rolled, then work out casualties, then have reactions.
i.e. You are shooting a Challie at 2 guys in front of a Shadow, you want to fire all your guns but because of the hit allocation rules your Main Gun with its D10+4 is more than likely going to splatter a Marine and not hit the Shadow behind. Now the Challie can fire its GPMG at a different FZ... could you:
A) Fire your GPMG at a FZ that only covers the 2 Marines providing ablative armour for the Shadow, then remove casualties before you fire your chain gun and main gun. Giving your main gun a better chance to kill the Shadow.
B) Do you have to roll all the dice together (different colours to mark different FZs, or roll them and total up hits) then allocate all the hits to models in the collective FZs as the next "action".
In either case my reading of the rules is that all shooting would be done before any reactions are taken.
Can you declare FZs in mid air, such as if you are shooting at a unit on the 2nd floor of a building.... can you declare the FZ just outside the building giving no LOS problems and hitting all models inside the FZ that are valid targets for LOS and cover rules.
Could you declare a FZ in the air behind a hill to hit a vehicle that is hull down behind it, again taking all the LOS and such rules into account?
I take it as read that you can only hit models on the level you target (as this is how we have played), we regard the FZ as a 2d circle rather than a 3d sphere. Wonder if anyone would argue otherwise on this.
