Converting DW Classic to New

Sir Brad

Banded Mongoose
Ok a wile back when we saw that DW was being re-released I ran a short campaign of Classic DW to grab the attention of some of the players in my group, now they all raved about it to the rest of our gaming circle and I was forced in to promising half a dozen other Guys & Gals that when it came out We'd start playing. any way a few months on the F(ns)LGS has told us that due to the demand in other parts of the world not to expect any copies till at least mid year.

any way Friday night they decided they couldn't wait any more, so they got me to start a Classic DW campaign with them. any way just so I know in case we get lucky and some how a copy of the first three DW books makes it down this way how difficult is it to convert characters from Classic to Current?

I've got a Knight, Sorceress, Mystic, Assassin and a Warlock in the party.

Easy.

Your Knight gains the Track skill.
Sorceress remains as is.
Mystic remains as is.
Warlock remains as is.
Assasin will need a bit of rejigging......they don't get all of the skills at char-gen now but have to choose and gain more as they increase in rank. Shouldn't be too hard to do once you see what skills the character isn't using just pull those ones, maybe.

Oho Fab! the Assassin has used all her 1st rank abilities, More than once. and I suppose the fact she is Marijah complicates thins a bit more too.

wile I have you the Sorceress is Krarth, I hope her parentage doesn't complicate things? (a real Fem-Fatal she is, who despite preferring Boys likes Girls to)

At least every one else is an Albion native. the Knight is from the Gentry, the Warlock is a Noble raised in a Convent of an Ecclesiastical Order Militant, though she isn't a Nun herself she is very Pious (as is the Knight).

and the Mystic is the son of Freeman Foresters.

Pious Knight, Pious Warlock ( ??? I'm going to assume your changing spell descriptions and the like to reflect a more 'holy' bent cos Warlocks are pretty 'spawn of the devil'-ish with some of their spells.). I'm wondering who trained her, though if it is a secret order within an order type thing that works.

Magi-spawn, Marijah assasin working with two True Faith.......is interesting, I'm guessing the Mystic runs a lot of interference. :D

Being Magi-spawn doesn't complicate things much more than being a sorcerer already does:- ' Witch! Witch!' isn't that much lower on the threat level than 'Witch with weird foreign uber-witch parentage!'.

The Marijah is going to have problems in Albion with the Crusades ongoing, but thats what disguise is for.

You said that they had used All their abilities? Track, Lock-pick, pick-pocket, shock attack, Mystical trances, alchemy etc. All of them? Worst comes to worst just cut the ones that are least used I'm thinking trances and alchemy will be the first to go as they're harder to maintain in a foreign land.

The Warlock rolled "Other" on her Background Table, couldn't think of anything so rolled again and got Noble (01) this spiked the players imagination and together came up with the "Raised in Convent of Order Militant and trained as a Battle Thurgest, wile her father is off fighting in the Crusades" , also turns out she is a (not so) slightly distant cousin of the King, her Father was a Progressive Moderate in the court before he was sent away to the Crusades, he has since disappeared as have his two eldest Sons who have gone to the Holly Land to look for him (and his brother in the case of the 2nd son). on My Legend their are some Inner Orders of the Orders Militant that do practice Thurgy, but like "Normal" Warlocks those capable of this are few and far between and not exactly open about their unusual abilities.

in King Under the Forrest (including Prologue & Epilogue) alone the Assassin has used Light Trance three times (she took a lot of damage being on Point). Track has bean used to track down Bandit & Monster Camps so the PC's could Loot them once they occupants had bean killed off, Pick Lock was used to clear out the Wizards Treasure Hoard, she was able to Sneak attack the Gorgon wile the Knight went for the frontal attack using the Mirrored Helmet and has successfully Shock attacked Bandits and Orcs, she has used Disguise to assassinate one of the Clansmen sent to knock her off and avoid detection of the other two more than once, Pilfer has bean used to Plant evidence to mislead the other Marijah in to thinking their guy was done in by Harbingers. What can I say the Assassin loves using her Profession Abilities.

the Krarth likes to tease the "Not-A-Nun" on her lack of education the ways of Men & Women, and as a bit of a mean spirited game has started trying to seduce her. though the Marijah is non practising in her own Faith she respects the Warlocks faith and is running interference so the two are becoming friends (in fact all three of the girls are developing a weird Friendship dynamic that is fun to watch).

The Knight is getting all awkward being around three beautiful Women, two who are exotically beautiful and a third who is a Classical Abaloinan Beauty (lots of Cold dunking and beating himself with a Willow Swish). the Mystic likes to play the Wise and Esoteric type who occasional sprouts simple Wisdoms and points out facts so simple and obvious that others miss them, when in fact he's just a down home boy enjoying watching the sophisticated types make fools of them selves.
