[CONAN] What would your typical Cimmerian carry?

I guess it really doesn't have to be a Cimmerian we're talking about. It could be a Borderer, and even any typical adventurer, really.

I'm not talking about the "usual" equipment like armor and weapons. I'm talking about the stuff that is usually skimmed over when describing an NPC--stuff you might find on a downed enemy if you rifled through his clothes.

I'm thinking your average, everyday Cimmerian Barbarian would carry little, and if he has stuff on him, it's probably something like:

-- a coiled length of fishing line with a hook carved from bone and tied to the end.

-- flint, steel, tinder.

-- maybe a ring, armlet, bone/stone/leather necklace, or some other like jewelry.

-- a coin or three, most likely from Aquilonia.

-- maybe a dried, skinned pelt of a small animal. Probably rabbit or fox. Easy to carry and ready for barter.

-- maybe a homemade knife, carved from deer antler.

-- maybe a precious stone, not "cut", but chipped naturally from a node in the earth. These could be more like chips rather than bigger nuggets. Emerald, ruby, diamond are decent examples.

-- small pieces of metal, possibly a belt buckle or buttons taken from a downed enemy. Metal is scarce in Cimmeria. Anything that can be melted and re-forged might be valuable to the right people.

-- a horn, to signal or call prey.

That's what is coming to my mind. Have you any other ideas?

A Kilt? :D
Also I'd upgrade the maybe to most definitely a Knife. Most everyone, in almost every medieval culture carried a knife at all times. Not as a weapon, but as a tool. Knives where constantly required for day to day activity (and eating). Infact, in my games I allow anyone standing adjacent to a square where someone died, to take a move action (that provokes AOO) to rummage a small weapon off the body, based on this logic.
Also, maybe a hatchet or axe of some kind. Chopping wood would be a daily chore.
Other than that, yeah, I'd see them carrying lots of random, "useless" stuff that isn't actually useless, but isn't immediately beneficial to adventurers.

Yeah, I didn't include clothes, weapons, or armor. I'm looking for "miscelaneous" ideas for all that "extra" stuff they might carry.

One of the S&P articles has a generator for this type of thing. Take a look at S&P 40, at an articled called Loot.

By the "maybe", I meant that he definetly would carry a knife, but maybe it was made from carved bone or antler instead of a traditional iron or steel one.

flint/steel/tinder
blanket/ large cloak
cord/ twine/ fishing line
steel knife (forget bone or obsidian, he aint a Pict!?!?!)
pouch with dried provisions (beef jerky, rolled oats, dried fruit).
hatchet
wineskin (for water or wine)

This bunch of things will allow you to survive 48-96 hours in the bush.
