Conan module maps - why no scales?!?!

GlassJaw

Mongoose
I have three modules: Tales of the Black Kingdoms, Tower of the Elephant, and Heretics of Tarantia.

In all the interior maps, there isn't a distance scale on any of them. What gives? I mean I can guess but is it really that difficult to include a scale? It's bad enough they aren't done on a grid.

What map scales has anyone used for these modules? I'm going to be running Black Kingdoms soon so a scale for the temple maps would be nice.

Ah, missing scale on the Mongoose maps, a pet peeve of mine. Like you say, how difficult can it be?

From my review of Tales of the Black Kingdoms:

Maps: The maps are bad, bad, bad! First of all, there is no scale given on any of the maps. They are not very detailed and gives you more of a general feel for the layout of a place, sometimes in conflict with the text. I had to redraw several of the maps myself to make some sense of them; for example, in the first adventure the size of Tarethis' bedroom is larger than the servants' quarters which are said to hold over 100 people! And in the temple of Jullah, the inner sanctum is described as holding at least 25 people during the ceremony but on the map the room is tiny. I also had some problems with the area map of the Black Kingdoms because the location of Atlaia and other areas are not the same as in other Hyborian Age maps.

Yeah, I think I'm definitely going to redraw them too, at least for my own sanity.

In the Temple of Jullah, I think I'm going to swap the last two rooms. Make the smaller one the forechamber and the big one the ritual chamber. Looks like a cooler layout for a big final battle. Maybe I'll make some battlemaps for it... 8)

I didn't like the map layouts for any of the stuff in Shadizar, due to it's lack of detail and simplicity, as well as the size differentiation. And the sewer map were only good for templates for other adventure ideas. :x

I do agree with you people.
If there's is to be a major change in 2nd Edition, I hope it will be an improvement of maps, in quality as well as in quantity.
Mongoose guys, your game is just great but your maps suck (when there's some...).

No scale in the Reavers of the Vilayet module - annoyed me at first, but then it didn't matter, because I just ran things like I wanted.
