Conan MMO

I was just saying that Funcom (anarchy online) is making a Conan MMO and here is the link: http://community.ageofconan.com

They game is gona rated M so no kiddies (lol im 14) and there gona have player owned cities and REAL combat (no auto attack) which means u can chose the directions of the attack and make combos so that you decapatate or mamim your enemy.

hmm hands up everyone who thinks them making it an "M" will prevent the kids from getting thier folks to subscribe for them and play it in thier annoying masses anyway :?

*Raises Hand*

Still I already applied for the beta test, as it looks and sounded promising enough.

As a previous beta tester and now lifetime member of LOTRO though it will have to be top notch in order to get me to subscribe to it as well.

Next MMO im looking forward to is Tabula Rasa, the sci fi MMO front has been very sparse.

True but the scifi scene is gona get full. There are many new scifi mmos coming out: warhammer 40k online, Stargate Worlds, Startrek Online, Tabula Rasa, and Huxley. Those are just the main ones so there are many new scifi mmos coming out. Also MANY "fantasy" mmos.

I wouldnt say full per se, even with those upcmoing titles you mention plus ther 4 or 5 Sci Fi MMO's that already exist that will still be barely a drop in the ocean compared to the Fantasy offerings available.

Star Trek online sounds good from the website, but its way off release wise... likewise with WH40k, though i suspect that one as much as I love the setting will end up geared at the pvp mobs as opposed to the pve'ers like myself

Stargate Worlds havent heard much about which is generally not a good sign lol.

Considering some of us Mongeese (myself included) went to Norway to work on this game personally...you will likely see us and our characters once the game goes gold. :)

Any excuse to cover yourself in pig fat and wave a huge sword about Bry, even if it is only in an MMO

A couple of us in an older thread suggested a Moongose based clan, any interest?

I do think this will help some but only some. I still think the game will attract it's fair amount of kids and immature adults. Trick is to find good people to play with so you don't mess with the eegits.

Bah. I ain't payin' a monthly subscription fee for a game I already paid full price for at the store. Not gonna happen. Especially as official servers usually suck. That is, not necessarily the servers but the kiddies that populate them. I walk into a dungeon and *smack* my ass is grass because two PKs named Left Nutz and Right Nutz kick my ass before my screen can update.

And even if there are safeguards against unwanted PKing, 90% of those punks still have the roleplaying talent of stale bread. "Rezz ploxx" does not aid immersion into the game setting!

So to make a long story short, I'm not paying $15 a month for that kind of crap (and it's the same kind of crap in EVERY commercial MMO game, it's not gonna be different in AoC).

For my part, I prefer not-massively MORPGs on small, free shards/servers that are run by hobbyists and attract the kind of player base I can have a good time with. Had some amazing online gaming experiences with NWN. Maybe something similar will come up for NWN2.

I cant wait for AoC to hit the shelves, I'll be queueing at the shop door in my loin cloth and inflatable sword all the night to be sure of getting a copy!* I know what you mean about such games being spoilt by immature idiots who cant roleplay and try to grief, but I think the game is what you make of it. I've played World of Warcraft for 2 years, and I would have quit long ago if it werent for the like-minded more mature people ive met and guilded with on there. Sure its been a struggle to find such people, the WoW community is generally terrible, but when you get a good group of friends in a game it makes all the difference.

*For dramatic effect only - I'll have pre-ordered it from an online supplier like everyone else

It's actually not so your loss I guess.

Silly to even try and bridge the gap here between the hardcore RPGrs and the Online gaming enthusiasts.

Is sum it up by recounting a conversation I had with my son, who is an avid online gamer (20 years old, not a kid mind you)

Dad - "Hey you should come over and play Conan with us this weekend!"

Son - "Well yeah I could but I kinda have plans to hook up with my WoW buddies ."

Dad - "WoW, the computer thing? Im sure its cool and all but it cant compare to a real RPG. Your missing something I promise you."

Son - "Real RPG? Cmon Dad, a bunch of guys sitting around a table talking to one another and telling stories? How can that top full 3D immersion and the awesome graphics?

Dad "Well Id say it tops it easily. No computer can reproduce what we visualize while we are playing. Besides, your so limited in your actions and choices."

Son - "Limited, like how? I can do everything thats important in a game. What are you saying - because there is no body controlling the action across the table from me its limited? Ill take actually seeing my character over hearing about him anyday."

Together - "Sorry, I just dont get it. Your game sounds ok but it just cant compare to mine."

Obvious to me the two approaches are completely different and hardly mentionable as a similar hobby. You can like one, like both or like neither certainly, but just because you enjoy one, doesnt indicate for a minute that youll appreciate the other.

Once upon a time I was very much of the same view as one of the previous posters.. i.e. I have paid full retail price for a game and ill be damned if im going to pay a monthly fee in order to play it with other people (many of whom need a serious THWACKING with a large stick).

But I have to say, my opinion has mellowed somewhat over recent years. There are in my opinion some MMO's out there that "ARE" worth a monthly subscription fee, that put out regular and interesting additions and expansion fairly regulalry and have good support, a cadre of decent players etc.. but shopping for an MMO is a lot like buying a pair of shoes, you may need to try on a whole bunch before you find one that fits and you like, and even then it will no doubt chafe in some way for a time, but eventually it will become comfortable and familiar to you.

I've tried lots of MMO's in recent years and they all have pro's and con's but its a matter of determining what you want from a game and hunting one down that as closely fits those criteria as you can find. For me the criteria have always been.

1) Decent regular support and expansions
2) Predominantly Pve content over Pvp
3) Interesting character creation/development
4) Equal capacity for solo and group play
5) A decent interface/control system

You'll note im sure that a do not list "a decent community" among my own criteria as one thing my many MMO game, trials, beta and subscriptions over the recent years have shown me is that no matter the game there will "ALWAYS" be a muppet contingent find its way onto them, you'll most often see them griefing or duelling in town/city centres of whichever game, talking crap over the OOC or Global channels and generally being as annoying and inane as humanly possible. fortunately channel controls and filters and block lists are pretty much standard fare on MMO's these days so you can quite easily remove these fools from your attention with a few clicks of a mouse. And while it may be true that most of the muppet contingent tend to be the younger more immature players, the stu[pidity and annoyance factor is by no means exclusive to the young :)

NO, for me so long as the game is good the community isnt so much of a priority issue. World of Warcraft for example being one of the most well known and populous games, is an MMO I have personally had only a few issue with, though the predominant detriment of that game is undoubtedly the muppet contingent that can be found living on almost every server.

The long and short of this all being that so long as you know what you want from a game, with a little shopping around (heaps of free 10 days trials available) you can find something to suit and within this time youll often find enough reason to justify the subscription price, which in the ends seems like such a minor concern in the end.

I think a Mongoose Faction would be great...I may even be able to get Pal and Gaute to work something up for us...

hmm...stay tuned I guess

ps - Who is a Cimmerian Bear Shaman ALL THE WAY. :)

I'm psyched about this game. I am a huge fan of both MMOs and traditional tabletop games, and most of my tabletop players are into both also. What I have seen of this game so far looks sweet, and I'm just torn between playing a demon summoning spellcaster or a greataxe wielding barbarian. Hmmm,... go go demons!

I have a Female Stygian Priest (Scion of Set)/Crafter Prestige in mind as a main

And also
a male Aquilonian Warrior (Liberator)/Lord Prestige as an alt

also maybe a demonologist for when i feel like some unheroic antics :)

It would be excellant if we all got a Mongoose based guild going and built our own city.

Barbarian for me, for I just love the looks of those sword-swinging combos in the videos! I'm planning to play some sort of bandit on one server (pvp obviously) and a more honourable type of character on another.

The M rating is a given for violent game world like Conan. But, I did not know how far they would push this rating, but then I saw THIS!

Yes! :D This game is is going to be like God of War the MMORPG, and not some clean family friendly game like Evercrack.

humm...? I wonder how far are they going to push the envelope?
