[CONAN] I Need A New God

To the tune of I Wanna New Drug by Hewey Lewis And The News...

I need a new god.  One that's gonna fit,
In my roleplaying game, one that's gotta twist
Nature, man, you Conan fan
I need a new god

OK, before I go digging through the tombs, I'm looking for an Hyborian Age god that I can use in Argos for a lost ruin that I'm planning on having the players discover in the hills between Argos and Shem.  The focus of this place is twisted nature.  Think of a bad druid, with vines and weeds used for sorcerous purposes.  Sacrifices held down to the ground by nasty, dark vines that rapidly grow their way out of the ground to act as bonds.  Carnivorous plants.  Things like that.

Is there a god already in one of the Hyborian Age religions or cults that would foot this type of bill?

Shub-Niggurath would fit well?

Other Cthulhu stuff turns up now and again and most Evil deities in Conan are similar to them?

:)

That's a great idea, but I was hoping to find something already associated with Conan in the game.

Somebody from Set's pantheon has gotta fit. But I don't have my books right now.

You're right! Two of them, do. And, the area I've developed for Argos has a strong Shemitish influence. I took the Shaipur references from the recent movie and made that the southeastern province of Argos. In the past (according to me!), armies from Shem has invaded and taken land for a while. For the last several generations, Argos has held their land, but the area still has a strong Shemite flavor.

The two gods from the Shemitish gallery, according to Faith & Fervor, are Tammuz (Adonis) and Votantha. Of the two, Votantha seems not only more evil and twisted, but also a better fit with the perverted nature.

I guess Votantha is a Leonard Carpenter creation as the god is central to Conan The Outcast. I've got that book, but I haven't read it. Guess I will, now.
