Combat Sim V2.4 - Earth/Minbari war

just to be sure, you said it's fixed but did you made a release ?
or do you have other bugs to fix before ?

Haven't done a release yet. Target is for the end of this week depending on how quickly I get through things. Could be sooner depending upon what I want to try and cram into the release.

Hi all, just tested the Combat Sim in Vassal ACTA in a 1v1.
Laranos of the Warrior Caste won the battle with his Minbari.
My Vree greyskins got a severe beating, thanks to my inept leadership!
The Combat Sim performed well. The copy/paste of the results in Vassal worked good.
However, it appeared at times that the combat sim was slower than rolling dice within Vassal.
Laranos is an experienced Vasal Acta player and can be swift with the dice and results.
Its time consuming in the Sim changing Fleet/Ship after each attack and defence.
Scrolling for the fleet and the ship for both pages. Attack/Defend.
(I know your working on something to quicken this up) :)

Then you have to choose Arc and Distance. I don't think there is a need for the Arc or Distance options, they take time to input and the player's know the arc and distance already.
When a ship is chosen, all the weapons systems in all arcs are displayed, could we instead choose a weapon by clicking on it?
Then choose 1 under firing for each weapon.(could this be made a default so you would not have to input it each time?).

I noticed that under Firing when you choose 2 or higher it has no effect. This feature would be great for fighter attacks, since they swarm, preferably with upto 6 fighter attacks an option in the Sim.
Currently you have to attack using ships/fighters one by one.
EDIT: just discovered you can manually change the amount of attacking dice, so if your attacking with 1 fighter with 2 AD but want to attack using 4 fighters, u can change it to 8AD yourself. Very nice! :D

I must say i enjoyed using the Sim. Much more relaxing than rolling and taxing the brain with results.
The game i played tonight began at 11pm and finished at 2am, usa and ireland players, i would have been to tired to play without the Sim doing the work for me.
I'll be definitely using the Sim again and i really look forward to future updates!
Thanks again,
Jay. 8)

That doesn't surprise me. The method I use for generating random numbers is rather slow and I have been looking into improving that.

Yep, need to do something about that. Not completely sure what I'll do yet. Full blown solution or something where you just tick off the fleets and ships you are using and it only displays those. By the way, you do know to use the keyboard to do quick navigation right? So if you want Vree you go to the fleet drop down and press "V" then you can load the Z'Takk up by going to class and hitting Z. You can cycle through the ones like the EA by hitting "E" multiple time to get to the one you want.

Then you have to choose Arc and Distance. I don't think there is a need for the Arc or Distance options, they take time to input and the player's know the arc and distance already.

The only thing you really need to specify is the arc. You can leave out distance if you are not firing on a defender with stealth. Perhaps I could speed this up by having it default to the forward arc when the ship is loaded.

Then choose 1 under firing for each weapon.(could this be made a default so you would not have to input it each time?).

So in other words if there is one weapon in the arc then it automatically fills in the 1 so all you need to do is hit fire? Not a bad idea.

Soooo this is all working the way you like then?

Yep. Look for another update at the end of ths week. Sent a Mobile version over to WaldronBob for testing but haven't heard back yet. Hope he got the file and was able to install it.

No i didn't know about the keyboard navigation. Its good, will help speed up things.

Cool, no more putting in range for me! Another time saver. :)

Ah, well I'll do you one better. My idea for the next big enhancement is to have the ability to create a Fleet roster where you add all the ships that you are playing with in the game. From there you select the fleet roster you want and then select the ship by the name you've given it (Achilles, Churchill, Excalibur, etc;) Since each ship is uniquely identified, you can go back to the ship and it will retain the amount of damage taken as well as any criticals. In addition, there will be an "End round" button that will go through all of the end phase stuff for you like resetting interceptors and performing damage control. Only tricky part there is giving the user a list of criticals and allowing them to select which one they want to fix. I can do it, just takes a little bit of work is all. The other hard part of this is saving that out so it can be loaded again later for a continuation of the game. Maybe I'll just do a "live only" version at first so people can play around with it.

Exelent work man your the best :D Well if you can implement the fleet roster idea, there will be no more nead for pencil and constant printing of ship cards, this would be a big improvment, thanks.

To avoide the constant scrolling you can open the game for each fleet. in a 2 fleet battle open 2 times the sim and then you don´t nead to change fleet every atack then defence you just change sim window, one with feet "A" as attacker and fleet "B" as defence the othet sim window do the oposit and only change the ships.

Only on PC can´t do in PDA

Arcadia.
