Combat Sim V2.4 - Earth/Minbari war

Sorry for the double post!

I know absolutely nothing about pocket pcs, but i'm interested in getting one to run the Combat Sim, this actually might convince my friends to have a game.
So i'm looking for advice on which pocket pc to buy , preferably cheap! lol
Is the pocket pc in the following link suitable?

The device you've found is actually one that would not support the combat sim. I'm working on a version that works on Palm Pilots, but it is effectively a complete rewrite of the thing. Anyway, this one would work http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Toshiba-e740-...2QQihZ007QQcategoryZ38331QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Just to make sure I'm talking about the right device, can you tell me if this is what you are talking about? http://www.my-xda.com/xda2i.html If it is then I think you may have confirmed something that I've been wondering about for a while. The current version is built to work on devices running the Windows Pocket PC operating system and I was never quite sure if it would also work on devices running Windows Mobile. From your experience I would guess that it means it doesn't which means I need to make a new version for Windows Mobile device. That's the bad news. The good news though is that it is pretty easy to produce a windows mobile version of the program. Give me about a week and I will e-mail you a version to try and install.
 
yep thats the one :) and i am very greatfull that you will sort me out with a windows mobile version. i can not wait to play some games and only have to press a button and wham bam thank you man.

Just had a game using Vassal and the Combat Sim.
It worked great. 8)

Some bugs i noticed, Centauri Corvan should be hull 4 not 6.

I don't think the Dodge feature is working on the defender page.
For example i moved a ship into a dust cloud, to available of the Dodge 6 benefit. When i manually changed it to Dodge 6 on the Defender page it didn't have any effect when firing took place.(It didn't appear to have been processed in the results).

Noticed a bug when fighters are being hit. I didn't hit the fighters, yet it would tell me ship is adrift or burned ut hulk.

Adaptive Armor: when 1 damage occurs it should remain 1 damage for the total after adaptive armor.

Do u think the Combat Sim could be changed to allow me to Copy the Results with a rightclick and paste in Vassal?
That would be great for Vassal!
It would remove any need for a neutral scoreskeeperl! :D

Hmmm dust clouds... hadn't thought of those. I'll look into the problem with the dodge. I think I know why it is happenning, but will have to investigate furhter.

Pretty sure I can do that. Keep me posted on your experiencs with Vassal. Will be interesting to hear how it improves the game play experience.

Its not a big issue, i noticed it in the result table and manually adapted the scores. :)
 
Ok, got the adaptive armor bug sorted out. The minimum amount of damage a ship with adaptive armor can take is 1 damage/crew per weapon system. It can not completly negate an attack.

I've gotten all the other bugs sorted out so now I need to look into making the quick copy capabilty for use with Vassal. Also need to start work on the Windows Mobile version...

Maybe just one thing to sort out concerning interceptors.
As far as i understood correctly the rule once your last die is lost you still get one but on 6+.

so :
Rolling 2 interceptors.
Intercepting hit 1 (3+) : 1 5
Intercepting hit 2 (4+) : 1
Intercepting hit 3 (5+) : 2
Intercepting hit 4 (6+) : 3

should be ok until hit2 but hit3 should be on 6+ no ?
(one roll has already been made on another weapon that's why it begins on 3+)

Well that's interesting... Your interpetation of the rules is correct so it should indeed say 6+ on that third roll. Need to see what is happenning there and get it fixed.

Lets say Adaptive Armor is destroyed in such a roll.
It would be useful on the defender page, to have an option to de-activate Adaptive Armor.
This is easy to deal with on the results page yourself but it would be nice to have the feature built in.

Ok another suggestion.
Very minor and cosmetic.
Would it be possible at have a new line for Combatants above Fleet.
So you can select the 2 battling sides.
Then when you go to Fleet, it would only have the 2 Fleet Names that you selected in Combatants.
It would save time, instead of having to scroll the entire Fleet list each time.
This would probably involve alot of work , so its just a suggestion.

Been thinking about that one myself lately as well. Not hard to add a check box for this and I probably should have had it there in the first place. Also contemplating something that automatically rolls through the ship traits when a ship is crippled to see what traits get lost.

Ah, well I'll do you one better. My idea for the next big enhancement is to have the ability to create a Fleet roster where you add all the ships that you are playing with in the game. From there you select the fleet roster you want and then select the ship by the name you've given it (Achilles, Churchill, Excalibur, etc;) Since each ship is uniquely identified, you can go back to the ship and it will retain the amount of damage taken as well as any criticals. In addition, there will be an "End round" button that will go through all of the end phase stuff for you like resetting interceptors and performing damage control. Only tricky part there is giving the user a list of criticals and allowing them to select which one they want to fix. I can do it, just takes a little bit of work is all. The other hard part of this is saving that out so it can be loaded again later for a continuation of the game. Maybe I'll just do a "live only" version at first so people can play around with it.


In other news, Windows Mobile version of the combat sim completed. Now I just have to figure out how to make an install for one of those.
