Cities of Hyboria

I have bought all Conan books up until now but if Cities is indeed only an encounter book then this may be the first book I'll pass on buying, which is a shame but I really can't find any use for a cities encounters book in my group.

I also have all the Mongoose Conan books and I'll most certainly be getting that one too. I bet it can't be worse than Tito's...

What's wrong with Tito's? I bought it. I haven't spent a lot of time with it, but it's a book of equipment, right?

I have noted that it's not as illustrated as I'd like it to be. But, it does include the weapons and equipment from the main book.

Wait...don't tell me that's all it includes...I haven't looked at it that closely. There is new equipment in Tito's, isn't there? Stuff not in the main book?

If your buying all the books Titos is a lot of cut and paste. The advantage is all that info under one book, which is a big advantage for some - like me. Even with indexes, I can't take all the books with me.

To the game session?

I do. I never know what those pesky players will come up with, so I never know what I'll need.

I took a ream-of-paper box from work. Threw all the books in it, and simply tote that to the game.

I like it because i can throw it to a player who wants to look up some equipment stats and i don't have to part with the rulebook i'm using atm.

I own all the books (except for the pocket Conan I managed to download freely from the Web), but only carry the ones I might need for the session (rarely more than five books). Tito's is never among those as stuff as we don't focus on equipment. My players rarely keep their stuff for long and as in Howard stories, their characters don't rely on stuff and magic to overwhelm their foes. Howard stories are about inner strength and will to survive, not about armor and sword stats. I've always wondered how designers stated a Battle Axe would do 1d10 and a Scimitar 1d8. Did they try them on someone? I prefer the way weapons are handled in games like Warhammer, where all weapons of about the same size (swords, axe or hammers...) do the same amount of damage. It's a less "gamist" approach which is more to my gaming group liking. We just hate "crunching numbers" in RPGs, hence our dislike of the D20 system...

Same here. And recently, I liked the approach of Sorcerer & Sword, where weapons are only rated as being edged/bludgeon, and for the tactical advantages they provide (e.g. in melee, a short weapon has advantage over a long/heavy one). Simple, true to the source and, perhaps, even more realistic.

It doesn't seem to be a Quilliams Artwork though.

Yes it is my cover, I certainly think it could have turned out better, I'm a little disappointed but I do plan to do some repainting sometime in the future. Especially some of the main figures including Conan. It will be done just for the purpose of personal satisfaction.

In fact I didn't recognize your "touch" there.
