Chimaera Roleplaying Universe?

Mongoose
I saw over at Chimera Studios that Mongoose is doing a supers RPG based on their world. Just curious what system is being used? Is this a M&M book? Did MP get another classic RPG under their wing? Or something new? :)

This reminds me of one very vague comment made by Matt (last summer?) about a project that they are considering and would really show the versatility of MRQ system. Could this be the mystery project?

Could be very possible. Maybe as a re-tooling of the old Superworld system?

I am not familiar with Superworld system. Is it a supers version of BRP?

Anyway, time will tell if that was a right guess :)

Really? Isn't M&M a d20/OGL variant? In what way it is similar to MSH? BTW, how do you think MRQ would handle a supers game?

M&M has a similar feel that MSH had .. it's simple, has Hero Points and doesn't bog you down with unnecessary baggage. I'm pretty much a fan of most supers games, but I think that M&M has really grasped the concept.

MRQ could do well if they were willing to make it without a power energy tracker (ie a need to have powers draw power from within a person). IMHO, that concept's been done to death with Hero and, while I like Hero, I think there needs to be more cinematic/story features made in any new supers RPG. The general rules of MRQ/BRP would work very well, but it will need to strive a bit to achieve a comic book feel :)

I admit that it went a bit OT, sorry about that, but I guess that it began from my reply where I speculated whether the game mentioned in the original post was the mysterious game mentioned way back. Please, see the first reply :)

Hi all,

I am a writer/creator and Managing Editor at Chimaera Studios/Publications, and also, a long time gamer. Indeed, we are publishishing the Chimaera Role Playing Universe with Mongoose, or so, I am told. It is not affiliated with any other system that, I am currently aware of (I have seen the PDF of the game). I will be happy to answer any questions to the best of my ability and/or knowledge.

Hello all. I am a long time gamer (wouldn't want it in print how long) and worked as the Director of the Chimaera Roleplaying Universe and would welcome the chance to answer any questions you may have.
I'll take a peek back at some of the postings and respond to the questions in a new post. Please feel free to check us out on the forums listed above in Nicholas' Post.
Thanks!

Yes, the system is new. Witch can tell you all more. It's his system.

As promised I'm back to answer questions:

1. The roleplaying system is new, and by new I do not mean bulky and complex.

2. At this time the Chimaera Roleplaying Universe will focus on the time, places, people, and things in that thematic world. I do not believe that there is any plan to merge any other Universe / System into this one.

3. The focus of the system from Development to Production has been to give each game "session" the feel and pace of a comic issue. Players are not expected to focus on the system as much as their characters actions. This allows for a tighter game session with more focus paid to the individual characters.

I hope this helps you get a better understanding, if you have any questions about specifics feel free to ask in the forum and I'll answer as I run across them.

Thanks!

Hi guys,

We'll be making an announcement about this (and another new entrant to the Flaming Cobra programme) very soon!

Okay, so I was wrong about the 'mystery project using MRQ engine'...

So, what can you tell us about the game engine and what 'power level' this setting has? With power level I mean do you have planet eating villains or are the characters more in the line of Spider Man?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the Question SnowDog, we will be releasing more information as we get closer to the actual ship date (It's right around the corner). As far as power levels are concerned, there may be a few city eating villians visiting the Universe and the rules allow for the creation of anything the players and director want. The key focus is playability with the governing rule that no matter what is built it can be destroyed.
I've found during my time playing RPG's that some weekends I wanted to destroy a few planets or create a unique species of minions. Sadly there wasn't a lot I could do about that desire, so when building the rules we wanted to have a focus on group driven games. So if the person running the game is comfortable with five planet eating villians running around in a campaign it can be built for them. I believe that most players will get a greater feeling of ownership if they play from C level newbies all the way up to A list stars but the engine is designed to allow the players to have the superhero game that they want without having a Monte Hall kind of experience.

Thanks,
