If 3rd edition A Call to Arms were coming out, what changes would you make from 2nd edition? Choose the answer which most closely matches your own.

Sincerely,

Andrew Norris

Change to initiative and movement system to remove init sinking of small fast ships to line up slow big ships.

Addition of a mechanic to give larger heavier ships less vulnerability to crits.

Re-balance some ships. Minor changes to some rules (make crits less dangerous, some special actions need bigger drawbacks).

Mainly change the FAP to reduce the size of swarms, I'd also look at trying to decouple the bore sight mechanic from the initiative system.

Saying that I'm very happy with 2e for the most part though.

Voted other as I am pretty much happy with 2e. The only thing I would like to see would be CBD chucked (you could say that any ship going into battle would have battened down the hatches already) or made much more prohibitive. And the introduction of a sa along the lines of "keep on target" that could give a boresight ship the chance to hit a ship that is right in front of it, dispite the opponants number of initiative sinks.

2e doesn't work. I voted F, as changes are needed to just about everything.

Don't get me wrong, I love it and will keep on playing.

But balanced? Not likely that it ever will be unless the designers throw out the current mechanics and start again from scratch.

Boresight, FAP and initiative combine to make fleets either sick or toothless.

But I'll keep on playing!

What i would like to see.
1 An improved crit chart with all crits repairable
2 Fighters to get more speed, they are way faster than ships
3 An redundancy system
4 Slight tweaks to some ships & SA's
If all this happened our group might play the official rules instead our house rules ( which are pretty much the above)

If you have been considering voting on this poll, please do, regardless of the results. If your selections aren't present, just vote for the selection of other and explain in a post below. Thanks.

Sincerely,

Andrew Norris

I voted G (A&B) but I really think initiaive works fine--if a SA for "Track Target" or something akin to it was included.

That way a more numerous fleet retains advantages in positioning, but you permit ships to select their target without having it denied by that other ship on the other side of the table.

I'm not ready to write off 2e thanks very much
all it needs is a few tweeks the famous 5 play testers and MGP taking apart the top 10-20 ships that cause issues and creating a 30 page supplement to arrive for xmas

Good, because that's what's likely to happen - and hopefully for more like Summer/Autumn than Winter :)

If the supplement basically included the changes A, B, C and D of this poll, it really shouldn't take too long to come up with it especially since a lot of this stuff has already been addressed before this poll. And the more playtesters that are used, the more the process should be quicker :)

Initiative and Beam weapon rule changes are as simple as changing a handful lines of text. The FAP just has to have some numbers adjusted and assuming that is done, probably only 2 dozen designs or so need to be adjusted as well.

With 3 designs to a page, 1 page for the FAP and 1 page for initiative, beam and miscellaneous rules changes, should take the grand total to around 10 pages. Download please :)

Andrew Norris

Plus the new Gaim, makes it up to 15 pages

I agree that all the game needs is a bunch of tweaks. We only need our bread and water you know ;)
This game could be so much more though if next edition the underlying mechanics were fixed rather than the game trundling along wearing a mass of band-aids...
