Can we have Empires & Thief's Comp.?? I will buy them.

I've checked the March S&P issue.
The authors of the Conan article is B.Steele, i suppose this is part of Thief's Companion.
I'm somewhat happy...but I still do not believe we will ever see the whole two books for free, but just small bits of them...
My concerns regard especially Empires....

You are correct. This is one of the TC chapters. Hopefully more will follow. :)

Not in issue 79 though. There's absolutely NOTHING for Conan :(

And I've read Mongoose had tons of Conan stuff to publish in S&P. So does it or does it not? The end of the year is only a few issues away now.

Barring an official announcement citing a change of heart to publish the books in PDF or an offical listing of what content will appear in each S&P issue, I suspect we'll only get a few token articles.

I don't believe that's the intent, I just think that as each issue is put together, content for systems receiving new product support will bump any remaining Conan content to the back burner. This is the primary reason why I am not in favor of splitting the content across S&P.

I'll gladly buy the PDFs.

We are looking to spread these two books into S&P throughout next year.
........not so much thus far.......

Message for Mongoose people: in the past you have done great, glorious things for Conan, making the best d20 and S&S game ever, and as a customer I always felt to be treated in the best possible way but now........... I'm sorry to tell: I DO NOT BELIEVE IN YOU ANYMORE.
Please, stop telling us oddities....JUST TELL US PLAINLY "YOU WILL NOT SEE THOSE 2 BOOKS" ...
I feel to have been cheated.
Mongoose people cheated us last summer with all that "secret project" stuff and "waiting for November" for two months, cancelling 2 PRODUCTS WHICH WERE READY...just to end up with THEIR mis-management of the license.
Now all that "We will give you those 2 books through S&P for free" while WE ALL KNOW THAT S&P WILL NEVER GIVE US THOSE TWO BOOKS IN THEIR WHOLENESS.

I want the material as much as you other Conan lovers, but, c'mon, they're giving it away FREE. And, you're bitching about it!

Yes, I'd love to have mucho more Conan material. I'm just saying that we should probably mind our manners and be thankful for what we do get.

There not giving anything away. There just not publishing anything in the S&P for the past two months. Two books would have alot of material in it and would take up at least an article a month for a year. So I guess that maybe either Matt lied or business concerns made printing any Conan articles not wise. If they don't plan on printing it in S&P then they should at least put it up on PDF.

I guess my point is--I know you want it. I want it to. But, you don't have a right to the material. It's the Goose's. By the goodness of their hearts the decided to give us some of it. We hope for all of it. It'd be great if they released it as a free pdf. Maybe they can't because of what happened with their disagreement over the license.

I guess what I'm objecting to is the sense of entitlement that is being projected.

But if the material is already done then it should be put out. And I feel that we have do have a right to the material. Conan was not dropped because of lack of interest, but because of a squabble by the owners of the liscense. Mongoose did an excellent job in with Conan!! For this I thank them.

If they don't want to publish the articles and are worried about printing a product and no one will purchase it, then they could have it pre-ordered and then produce only the amount pre-ordered. This would keep them from having too many extra copies and it would make the gamers (ie., customers) happy.

I don't know. I think Conan has been round for going on a decade. I'm sure that profits were dropping. That's probably why we saw more b&w softcover books rather than color hard covers. They were cutting costs before the life cycle of the game died out.

And, the Goose has learned a new business model with Traveller. Look at the Traveller books. Softcover. Hardly any art. What art there is, is not that good--usually b&w drawings or sketches. Layout is simple--just plain black text and tables printed on white paper. Most of the covers don't need artwork at all--just a black cover with a red stripe and little text.

And, Traveller fans like the game that way. It reminds them of Classic Traveller and its simple production value.

For the Goose, these are relatively inexpensive books to make compared to the art-heavy, hardback, beautiful books for the Conan line in its day.

Add to this that Traveller is their top selling game ever--the least expensive line they have to produce--and it doesn't take a genius to see why they're putting so much energy into it (all the books and support). Plus, Traveller is early in its game life cycle, where as Conan is on the way out.

That's probably why we're seeing what we're seeing in S&P.

But, who knows. Matt & Co. have been pretty good to us. I have a nice, laminated map of Shadizar that he sent me, free of charge, all the way across the pond. It's something I appreciate. Maybe the Goose will surprise us one day with a pdf or something.

And, maybe they won't.

But, it's their call.

I know I alwyas say teh same things and I say "I'm sorry" for that...but I cannot resist the temptation....

I agree that I have to thank Mongooses for a variety of Reasons:
1) making the best S&S rpg game ever,
2) sending me a free Shadizar map,
3) great relationship with the customers (AT LEAST BEFORE THE "BIG SECRET PROJECT" stuff...),
4), etc...etc...

HOWEVER
They have 2 faults which cannot be denied:

1) The end of the Conan line IS THEIR RESPONSIBILITY, they invested too much in many future products which were not included in the license (especially the atlas) WITHOUT the clear, explicit approval of the license holders. Re-read all the previous declarations by Conan Properties.

2) Mongooses cancelled 2 products which were ready in July 09 telling to wait for November 09, only because they wanted to invest in those bloody new future products...just to get the failure of the line.
Furthermore they promised us bits of those products for free....but have not seen much thus far.
...and if one thinks how much we have waited for Empires....

I absolutely agree that none of us are entitled to anything that Mongoose owns, be it these "missing" books or any other material.

However, it does irritate me greatly to be told to expect these books to be printed in S&P soon and then not deliver on that. If they are not ready to be published, dont lie to me and tell me they are. If you're not going to publish it, dont lie to me and tell me you are.

Thats what chafes me. I dont feel entitled. I feel the target of a lie.

I still have faith in the Goose. I think that they'll surprise us with something...I dunno what. The pdf's would be nice.

We'll see.

Maybe I'm wrong.

The is the problem is that we feel cheated. I agree Mongoose did a great job with the Conan product. I don't know if it was a decade yet. I think maybe 7 years before this fiasco happened. And I am glad that Mongoose lowered their price on Conan products (which is smart to get rid of product and helps those of us that don't have all of the products).

All I'm saying, is that if these two products are done, "release the hounds" and let them out so we can enjoy them (I actually just wanted to be able to say "release the hounds"!!!! )

And they are doing a great job with the Traveller product. Actually the Goose is the only publisher that I purchase roleplaying products from. 8)
