And we have built a fighter that ignores the limitations of the firmpoint and can fire at very long range!

It has some room for abuse. But in this case, I think that would be one a Ref can handle with simple "Nope!"

the idea of a jump sled/fighter isn't a bad concept, there just has to be some restraint exercised. If you had such a ship the main hull could loiter around in the outer system while the armed section went in to check out the area. Or the combat section stands off on overwatch while the main hull skims fuel.
 
I must be missing something because I don't see this as a major issue. So a ship could carry a fighter. How is that any different than any other pocket carrier?

What am I missing that you folks are seeing?

in this case, the fighter is armed with a quad particle turret than can fire out to long range instead of short. where a normal 20-ton fighter can carry only a single weapon, and is restricted to firing at shorter ranges.

Of course this is if you treat the 20 ton section as a full starship instead of a small craft.

my suggestion would be to treat any section of the ship below 100 tons as a small craft. no bays limited range for firm point weapons, and targeting penalties for larger vessels firing at smaller vessels.

A regular 20 dT fighter can only have one turret weapon doing say 3D damage with a max range of Close. My example 20 dT section has a full turret doing 3D+9 damage with a max range of Very Long. The rules have a big loophole.

The 20 dT section is not a ship, the full combined 100 dT object is a ship. It's components, including the hardpoint, have to be included in some section.

That is basically what I suggested in the linked thread above. The current rules do not allow that, as far as I can see.

Got it, I knew I was missing something but I guess I was just still asleep this morning when I read the thread. :lol:

Until it is fixed, I think I will just include your suggestion as a house rule in my house rule file. :mrgreen:
