Breaching pod question

I don't have my books handy but I don't remember seeing an answer to this question:

Last game I flew a couple of breaching pods into a Corvan. They dodged the attack after launch and then hit the close by Corvan next turn. They both weathered the anti-fighter. However since the boarding action happens after the attack phase my opponent shot up pods with a nearby Centurion. Is this kosher? After the successful attachment on the ship, which I assume is what happens in the fighter attack phase, can the pods be picked off? I remember something about the Drazi Claweagle (a big ship) could only be targetted by precise and accurate weapons.

"Once a breaching Pod has survived any Anti-Fighter defenses and is in base contact with the targeted ship, it may not be shot at by any other weapons from either the target or another ship as the breaching pod will have clamped onto the ship's hull."

Pg 42.

So, no.

The Drazi ship, though, can be shot at because it is held onto the target by a harpoon-type system and then the troops jump across from one airlock to the other. With BPs, the attacker Becomes a part of the ship's hull.

Claweagle can only be attacked by Accurate or Precise weapons while grappled.
"While attached, the Claweagle may only be attacked by Fighters or ships other than the one being grappled with weapons that also have the Accurate or Precise trait."

Does that mean any fighters, or just those that have accurate/precise weapons?

i.e., is it
[Fighters] or [ships...with weapons that also have the Accurate or Precise trait]

or
[Fighters or ships other than the one being grappled] with weapons that also have the Accurate or Precise trait

The first one.

Well since Fighters are by definition not Ships, Id say its two separate categories

I agree with Burgers interpretation (though it could be clearer in the book I admit) however I should point out that according to the 2nd Ed rulebook Fighters, by definition ARE ships. (a ruling that I personally think has caused alot of issues (see the fighters an hyperspace thread ;)). The reason for the change I think is to change fighters effects in certain scenarios and allow them to benefit from scout locks but I cant help thinking it might have been better to change those rules to say they apply to ships and fighters rather than just saying 'fighters are ships now'....
