Travellers have been waiting literal decades, but the first new release for Classic Traveller is now with us - Book 9: Pirates!

You can grab your own copy right here: https://www.mongoosepublishing.com/products/book-9-pirates

In both PDF and print format, we have ensured the latter fits as close as possible to the original 'little black book' format. We are expecting a very fast turnaround on the print edition, and will be likely sending pre-orders off in the next three weeks or so!

Embark on daring exploits and leave your mark on the stars! Whether leading a crew of daring corsairs or battling ruthless raiders, this book provides new rules and tools for pirate campaigns:

• Advanced character generation for creating infamous pirate crews.
• New corsair starship designs and acquisition rules.
• Privateering mechanics covering the economics of piracy.
• A ready-to-play border subsector ripe for plunder and adventure.

For Classic Traveller, the term Books has a special meaning, presenting additional rules on specific subjects, expanding on Traveller's basic concepts. Books run 48 to 56 pages and may be used independently or together, but all require the basic rules sets.

First skim through - it is a great piece of work.
Love the expanded character generation and the ironmongery :)

A more in-depth read now...

Do you get the pdf if you order the physical book? I know you do with other Mongoose books but thought it best to check :)

I think that's the fastest I've hit 'pre-order' on an rpg book ever. It looks great and having a foreword by Marc is a lovely touch too.

That's good. Perfect-bound softcovers at that size are REALLY annoying. They won't easily stay open, even if you break them in. I guess I should place an order.

Saw Robert Eaglestone’s name in the credits and this was an auto-buy for me. Enjoyed his X-Boat fanzine

How awesome is it that Classic Traveller items are being produced? I think it's amazing. I am so in--I can't be anymore in.

I automatically pre-ordered Book 9 Pirates in print.

Print is where it is at.

And, just for grins, I ordered the Starship Operations Manual. I haven't received it yet, but I took a peek at the pdf, and the book looks brilliant. I've had the original DGP SOM since it came out, and I've treasured it through the decades. Now, I think I've got another masterpiece on my hands.

I don't need another rules set. I'm a Classic Traveller kind of guy. This new SOM is pretty much rules-lite, almost rule-non-existent. It's a perfect purchase for a Classic Traveller player.

Mongoose, I blinked, and you guys started hitting it out of the park. I just wish that you were still publishing the Conan RPG, because your version was the best one to come out--definitely better than the Modiphius version. I've haven't seen the new Monolith version yet, but I'd still bet on your game. It really captured the Hyborian Age.

Mongoose, keep of the good work!

Keep making awesome print items for Classic Traveller, and I'll be one of your best customers!

Cheers!

What font did you use on the cover? The CT books used Optima. That doesn't look like Optima. It looks close, but it's not exactly Optima.

As I own nearly everything Classic Traveller (CT), I have of course bought this. But I am curious: is not the audience for this quite limited unless Mongoose intends to reissue CT in some form? DOES Mongoose intend to reissue CT? I'm thinking the great FFE reissues of all Books, all Supplements, all Adventures, etc. I realize this stuff is available as PDFs, but physical copies have value. So, are there any plans for physical reissue?

CT actually is re-issued. On Drive-Thru, the white book pdf is free right now, and I think it's an awesome version of the rules. The Traveller Book used to be my go-to rule set, but now, my go-to is the that book. If you want print, it's only $9 bucks.

Starter Traveller is often free on Drive Thru also--right now, the pdf is $9.99.

You can get Books 1-3 for $6 bucks each in pdf.

And, the Traveller Book is available POD for $25 bucks (on sale right now for $20 bucks), or $14.99 ($10 on sale for pdf). I bought a print copy not because I really needed it, but because my old original is getting worn.

Classic Traveller is available if you want it.

Thanks! That the Traveller Book is available hard copy is very good--great resource. This is still not the same as FFE's physical reprints, which were much more comprehensive. As I noted, PDF availability is not the same as hard copies.

Agreed about the pdf's. I'm a print guy.

Have you checked out the white book? If not, you should download the free pdf and have a look. Again, the print is only $9 bucks, if you find yourself liking it as much as I do.

I'm running Conan right now, but if/when I get another Traveller game going, I'm going to buy one of those white books for each of my players and pass them out on game session 1.
