Cosmic Mongoose
Ok guys heres the group listings. group 2 does only have 5 players unfortunately but thats just how it panned out (if you are desperate to have a 6th person in group 2 i will bring in a fleet but will not progress past the group stage). obviously the top 2 from each group will go through to the semis etc.
please dont post in this thread but send all results to me (obviously both players send rrsulst to confirm) and I will keep them updated in this thread.

Check your private mail. Double checked my sentbox and I could swear it says there hermeses carry STARFURY each :D

Seems you made slight typo there :-)

yep you right and its corrected.

quick reminder to all, when you finish a game can both people send me the tourney points results just so it confirms it, thanks.

Well my first game was against Laranos and damn he had hideously bad luck :-(

I tried to take logfile. Dunno if it worked(Vassal went crazy at the end) but if you are interested try at:

www.tneva.net/ACTAlogs

If somebody wants to put logfiles there as well just email for me(tneva82 (a) hotmail.com) and I'll put them ASAP. Though note on tuesday I'll be flying to Finland so won't be reading emails :D

Basicly game was pretty much decided on two events:

1) Omega scoring 5 hits and 6-6 at kabrokta with laser. I got that beast out before it did much of damage.
2) His fighter swarm failing to take out nova when he by all rights should have taken it out...This allowed to a) swat lots of fighters(vp's) and b) eventually meant nobody got the 10 vp's from objective.

34 vs 22 vp difference for EA. Despite rather crappy start for LONAW they crawled through. Lesson learned: This fleet HATES interceptors...Kabrokta felt easier to damage than the other skirmish ships together...

for those of you playing an assassination game you can PM me your target so if theres any query about what the target was you can ask me (EP brought this up). or you can trust your opponent :)

Well played my first game Vs EP

And I pity his next opponent as he is due a HUGE slice of luck

Assassination...

I won

Saved the game, not sure if that helps anyone or not!
Any others in my group please PM me to arrange a game, can only play in the evenings (BST) as I have to work and the MOD are funny about you playing online games at work! :)

Well, after another series of Vassal Dice handling, I ended up conceeding vs CZ, so win for him, 20-0...and I'm going to drop from the tournament.

Sorry guys, but Vassal is just frustrating me so much it's not fun anymore, my other opponents should get full points, and Kat, if you wish to make it fair, TN should probably get max points as well, so there is an even point spread. IE, as if I hadn't played.

Confirming the result [20-0]. Despite a powerful (and lucky) beamstrike for a Kabrokta as it left hyperspace, it was a close run thing for a while. Then the Mothership got angry at a very useful Ikorta and the Milanis began getting cleared out, leaving a half-dead Kabrokta pretty much fighting the battle alone.

I'll send the logfile to tneva82 for your possible amusement and certain scouting reports.

Davesaint and I are from the same locale, so we may run that part of the tourney on a (gasp!) actual table. We'll post photographs if we do it that way. Or VASSAL, either way.

I back tneva82 getting full marks.

Yup Itkovian wiped the floor with me in the end. It looked like a close game at times but where he couldn't seem to roll anything but a 1 or 2 for initiative, I couldn't roll above 1 or 2 in combat!

And Blue Stars are sick..........

you only have 2 games left. it would be nice if you could complete them at least as its more about people getting games than always winning etc.

Battle reports with photos are always fun! Sorry for posting on a tourney I'm not playing but just noting that these games do look interesting. I'm a little peeved at myself for not getting off my butt and learning how to use Vassal!

Yeah, that's why I'm playing - the fun of the game and meeting new people :) Not to mention it renders our games completely meaningless... of course it's your choice.

Out of curiosity, why is it you find Vassal frustrating? If it's the dice then all I can say is that they're no different from real life dice (they're probably more random - looking on the Vassal site the info on it means they can't be biased any more than real dice!) If it's the interface then that's a shame but there's not much to be done.

from personal experiance I would say random is not something that fits these dice, they do seem to lean towards one person a lot, every game I have played, I have sat in frustration at the crits i receive, as my own "rolls" result in 1's and 2's a disproportionate amount.

Or not. Depends on how the random number generator is implemented...

He mentioned(and somebody else whose name I forget) that the system breaks down when you roll them in small batches. Ie you get more of average when rolling 24 dice with Xd6 than with 4 batches of 6.

One explanation could be that they reseed the generator every time dice generator is thrown which is incredibly stupid(and completely opposite way pseudo-random generators are supposed to be used...) way to do it but which is(or was) used by atleast one professional game that I know...So why not Vassal(is it professional or amateur made? If amateur then this could be very simple flaw which slipped through...). This could easily generate such a behaviour as he pointed out...

Thing is, even if the dice aren't perfectly random, they shouldn't arbitrarily favour one player over another. Non-random dice is one thing but player-specific non-random dice is another.

Actually if that theory is true it favours certain fleets: Namely those who roll bucketload of dices at once. Say anything with 12+ AD weapons. Since those would then get more normal distribution rather than screwed distribution from smaller batches.
