BAN Ancients from the ID Gaming War Tourney

Well, I suppose some people feel that as Matt wrote the book he might know what he's talking about, personally, I'm not so sure ;-)

I have been present at an incident when Matt could not remember what he had written in the book at all. Pauly_D and Old Bear can back me up on that one

If I was trying to abuse the tournament I'd probably try a fleet consisting of 5 Tertius and 10 Prefects.
5 Tertius, 9 Prefect and 3 Corvan you mean ;)

Very true. Although I'm closer to having the right number of Tertius and Prefects than I am Corvans right now. Probably because of my current lack of Corvans. While my Narn fleet is finished I haven't purchased any Centauri stuff beyond the fleet box(and the four flights of Rutarians that they accidently sent me instead of Frazis one time).

Sudden thought.....can you board ancients?
I'd assume no, but wondering. May have missed it in the book.
You did miss it in the book, no you can't board ancients.

Damn. Might have worked. Can you give me a page number?

But personally, I'd not complain if someone wanted to bring an ancient - as noted you're doing yourself out of a point, and a hail of missiles* might not do badly.

A shedload of dice will hurt too....and with only one target, the more focused fire the ship gets, the better. And boresights become no problem whastoever (see the EA game)

*Especially given the range advantage...

Not right now I'm at work, but its on the page with ancients special rules, the paragraph explaining that they don't have crew.

ok I just checked my rulebook and it says "the special effects of criticals are not cumulative"

where is the ambiguity?

Rulesmasters query away! Hopefully, the rules as written will take precedence over a random tourney call!

Rulesmasters rulings calls can sometimes contradict the rules as written too!!

To be honest I don't see the need for a query, it's there in black and white, Matt just called it wrong on the day

EP I think you're absolutely right (see you can never say I don't say that now ;) ), but I wasn't about to dispute a ruling on the day...

Rulesmaster rulings don't always agree with the black & white, either.

I'd most likely not have queried something Matt said either but I definitely will next time!
