BAN Ancients from the ID Gaming War Tourney

Reaverman

Mongoose
Sorry,

but I've looked through Armageddon and I think having ancients (not vorlon or shadow) present on the table. Is just re-inventing the Massed Sag fleet.

In the book it states that Ancients appear, on rare, one off battles. Not four battle, once after the other. They are not a fleet, rather lone ships. Put in the Armageddon Rules, by Mongoose, to show their emense power, and sell the minis. Mongoose even warn of the possible outcome, using these.

Anyone using one of these ships, is just going to hammer his opponents big ships, and then depart. Giving himself an outstanding victory, and winning the game.

Shadows might have a chance, but I some how doubt it.

Against a Hull 5 ship, a Triumviron on CAF would score;

Hits 33.72 Expected Number of Hits
Damage 101.17 Expected Damage Total
Crew 101.17 Expected Crew Total
Criticals 11.24 Expected No. of Criticals
Ancient Damage 413.10 Expected "Ancient" Damage

Against a Hull 5 ship, a Triumviron would score

Hits 25.50 Expected Number of Hits
Damage 76.50 Expected Damage Total
Crew 76.50 Expected Crew Total
Criticals 8.50 Expected No. of Criticals
Ancient Damage 312.38 Expected "Ancient" Damage

Against a Hull 6 ship, a Triumviron on CAF would score;

Hits 23.33 Expected Number of Hits
Damage 70.00 Expected Damage Total
Crew 70.00 Expected Crew Total
Criticals 7.78 Expected No. of Criticals
Ancient Damage 285.83 Expected "Ancient" Damage

Against a Hull 5 ship, a Triumviron would score

Hits 15.50 Expected Number of Hits
Damage 46.50 Expected Damage Total
Crew 46.50 Expected Crew Total
Criticals 5.17 Expected No. of Criticals
Ancient Damage 189.88 Expected "Ancient" Damage

They ignore stealth, so Minbari players are going to be screwed completely (good bye Sharlins).

The ignore crew hits, and the effects. So IF you score a crit, you are going to find 1 in 6 of them useless. Also, he gets to regen his hits back.

No other fleet, has got the output from one ship. The game is going to last possibly 3-4 turns, depending how quick the non-ancient player can flee.

Not even Vorlons, or Shadows match this performance

I for one, am happy to lose to a fair fleet. I played the MoW tourney on the 11th, and all 4 games were fantastic. But there is no way, I am travelling 210 miles, just to climb inside a meat grinder.

In short, they are over balanced, they are too powerful, they areBROKEN

some cheese, to go with your whine...

How many times have you actually played against one? Using our mythbustig experiance, taking one large ship is a bad idea because crits will ruin you. Ancients do take crits, sure they repair them the next turn, but if you can take out the weapons or the movement, their ENTIRE FLEET loses firepower for a turn.

Yes but every other fleet will have at least 5 ships, many of them War or Armageddon level.

Burger,

they cancel a trait to one entire fleet. Minbari aint got a chance, and I am not even going to Mythbust this. Its bleedin obvious!

Erm yes they are Broken, thats the WHOLE FREAKIN POINT!!! Theyre several billion years more advanced than anyone else (except the shadows and Vorlons...)

But frankly they shouldnt be allowed in a tourney anyway, theyre not designed for normal use and Armageddon says as such.

What points are you allowed for that tourney though by the way? Remember each Ancient costs TWO armageddon points....

Is this some other ID gaming tourney cos as far as I can see the most you can use in the 2nd December 1 is 5 pts of Battle and stop me if I've got my maths wrong but an ancient costs 8 battle points doesnt it?

5 point war and at that level/Faps...Ancients will win everytime.

Its a 5 point War fleet. So by taking an ancient, I am even disadvantaging myself because I am 1 War point short :P

Anyway the organizer said its OK so stop comlaining :P:P:P:P

Childish.

Hmmmmm.... I'd seropiously question the decision to allow things like that in a tourney. Thats no worse than allowing a fleet of Dusk Coutaris etc.....

But seriously Im not sure its an automatic win for the ancient by any stretch. I mean consider this: 10 Tertius......... Id like to see even one of the ancients survive that lot for long. (or indeed 10 Tinashis or 10 Marathons or 10 G'Lans etc etc....)

Where am I being Childish, I just dont want to sit by and watch someone ruin a perfectly good day. I am not stopping you from playing, and you are welcome to stay at the ACTA B&B...I am just not going to the tourney.

I seriously doubt anyone has ships in those numbers, most players tend to have Battle and War level ships on lower numbers.

Fine, its your perogative. But IMO its childish to withdraw just because you don't like my fleet. Its far from a certainty that we'll even fight each other.

Not so much in fighting you, as watching someone rip up everyones fleet. The gaming event is meant to herald the spirit of gamesmanship, and enjoy yourself. This goes into the realms of playing with a huge fleet of SAGS

If its just game, why not field a normal fleet?

EDIT-HANG ON a cotton picking minute...I am chilled

I can see where Reaverman is going with this, against some of the younger races (Minbari, Narn etc) then the Ancients may destroy them to easily.

However I played against a friend on Saturday who used the entire Ancient fleet and I used a Shadow fleet (so the game was basically 10 pts Armageddon), I blew the Ancients out of the skies and lost ships to the value of 1.5 Armageddon.

Ok yes some of his dice roles weren't great but never the less it was Ancient vs Ancient so all in all fair and my conclusion of the new Ancients they suck. :?

Perhaps against the younger races they will do better?

They simply cost too much to use in a fleet.

Just my comments on the game play of them in response to the comment they are broken.

Dude thats an uber battle, and the PL was WAR not Armageddon...as in 20 point War...you dont have Armageddon PL battles...just the ships being used were. Thats also a bad example to point out too, you had to use Shadows to actually win them.

You've run the stats for a Triumviron's weapons, but have you run the stats for how much damage will be done to it in return? A Triumviron is weaker than one Victory, so how long would it last against (for example) a Victory, 3x WSC-2 and 6x WS? Or 5x Vorlon Light Cruiser? Or 5 Shadow Hunters? Or.... etc. I think it's far from an easy fight.

Im sorry Reaver but:

a) You can have an armageddon battle if you want to just because you cant RANDOMLY generate one doesnt make it invalid.

b) You said in an earlier post that shadows wouldnt stand much of a chance.

c) It's a 5 pt War game even if you dont use that many battle choices and use loads of smaller ships your'e still going to be packing insane firepower. Think about just how big a 5pt War fleet actually IS....

I'm not sure where this has all come from but it seems to me like Burger is taking something that is perhaps a little on the beardy side but I wouldn't go so far as to call it unfair at the level it's at and you are most definitely not coming across as 'chilled' your coming across as having gone berserk! (no offence meant by this just trying to point out in a well meaning way that your getting a bit carried away...)
