Back to the Purple - now where's my fleet book?

Rorschach

Mongoose
After around 18 months of not playing at all, I've finally gotten and digested the new rulebook, and have decided to give the new edition a whirl.

Trouble is, I can't get a Fleet Book. My LGS tells me that their distributors are all sold out, and no one can get any in the US.

Might any MGP types have knowledge (and please share) of when the good ol USA will be flooded with Fleet books? :-)

I've seen some of my redesigned Centauri ships online, and my ships move out of drydock even now! Soon we will resume crushing the inferior Earthers and Vree...
But I'm jonesing to see the Dilgar lists, plus the Gaim and Psi Corps, so I can decide which one becomes fleet number three. :-)

Also, while I'm here, any new "This sucks" controversies or bandwagons to be aware of?

Thanks!
Dale

They are selling fast, and not enough were ordered :)

However, we have just (today!) sent a whole _bucket_ load to the US, so they'll soon be with you.

If you're returning to the Centauri fold, I have a few tips for you. In no particular order, then:

Vorchans - you need them. However many you own, buy more. This ship will carry your fleet at lower priority levels. Its firepower is truly frightening, even if it is a glass hammer.

Maximus frigates - you need them, too. This is the only way you can get decent levels of interceptor protection on your capital ships. Sure, you can use Sentri or even Rutarian fighters to provide interceptors, but that's a good way to lose your fighters. The Maximus also makes up for the low anti-fighter numbers on your capital assets. Don't forget the new Intensify Defensive Fire! special action.

Primus - this is a mainstay of your fleet at higher levels. It packs a wallop, including a nasty six dice of precise beams, and provides a pair of Sentri flights. It's hull 6 and has plenty of damage to soak up enemy fire.

Balvarin - you need these too. Your own carrier is now raid level, has eight Sentri flights and gets the fleet carrier trait. Use it whenever you can.

I have 14, and am thinking of more. :-)

I have 4...that sound sufficient, right?

I'll have to re-read that one...

I have 2 of ye olde sculpt. I'll probably get at least 1 more of the new ones.
My Fav improved ship so far, just reading the stats online. I plan to get one more.

Thanks for the tips!

The busted stuff controversies are as follows...

Abbai - too weak under new rules, the bimith in particular, and fewer interceptors than any other fleet now due to Kotha not being able to fill the role.

Gaim - just too much of everything they do... fighters, e mines and toughness

Centauri - Vorchan is close to too tough, which makes the Demos definately too tough...

Shadows - not enough of what they do, initiative system screws them due to lack of sinks, and fighters are near worthless.

Psi Corp - not a big one, but comments to the effect that the low end is too weak, almost a bit raidery...

Think that covers the fleet contraversies...

Rules...

Beams - have way to much variance, too good vs hull 6/are cool cause their easy and stuff blows up.

Bore sight & initiative sinking/swarm fleets - linked issue as you can't fix one without the other. Basically do swarm fleets just kill everyone else due to advantages in maneuver, total damage/crew, crit resilience and higher total AD OR is it worth buying ships at or above the pl of the scenario. Most solutions bone the bore sighted thus the linkage.

New Crit Chart - actually harsher than the old one, with one exception (no All Weapons Off line). Can lose traits, additional -1 AD, can lose troops...

Boarding - new rules for boarding actions make them too easy in some folks eyes.

Think that's the big list in a nutshell.

Looks like you're on the money, there. 2 Primus cruiser should be enough, since they're at battle level, but three would make a hat-trick. Always nice. 4 Maximus is fine, I can't see you wanting more than that. 14 Vorchans is indeed impressive, maybe make it up to 20 for that over-the-top, Centauri feel... :P

I picked up the Reinforcements box last night at half off. So now I've got, in total,
1 Adira
1 Octurion
2 Primus/etc
3 Dargan
4 Altarian
2 Balvarin
3 Centurion
4 Sullust
14 Vorchan
1 Mograth
6 Maximus
4 Darkeners
4 Corvan
2 Haven
2 Kutai
but only a hnadful of actual Fighter stands.

So I'll probably order up a bunch more fighters, and maybe some more Patrol boats. And a Liati.

Can you still "split" a Battle point? I forget how that works now...
