Back to Basics

Sir Brad

Banded Mongoose
Well its DW season with my gaming circle, where reviving a DW game I'm a player in and I've bean roped in to gm'ing a game with a couple of guys that haven't played DW in a few years and some one who has never played DW.

last night I started my campaign with a Mini Double of Under the Rocks and my Stick that in your Pipe, in a fortnights time I'm going to run Darkness before the Dawn and maby King under the Forrest since when my guys game we go for longer sessions (6-8+ hours including brake) we tend to need to run doubles to fill out the time. With luck In from the Cold will have arrived by session 2 giving me some time to prepare for 3 as I'm a bit up in the air about having to run stuff from my "Unfinished" archives.

Anyway the PC's are all very basic, we have a Sorceress from the Upper Nobility long on PSI & Smarts, OK reflexes and looks but disappointing Str. We hashed things out and she is Lord Alfred's Nice by his sister, she is third in line to the Domain after her Cousin and an Uncle (her mother has passed)

The 2nd is a Knight that Failed Stat Qualification for all other Classes PSI of 6 and all stats except Looks (14) in the 8-11 range and from the middle nobility, the only other language he speaks is the one used by the nobility when their being asses.

the last is a Knight from the lower Gentry, Impressive Strength good Ref and Int with average Looks and PSI.

In under the rocks after a good application of Dragon Breath the 2nd knight finished the Ogre off quick.

In Stick that in your Pipe because we where going good for time I used the extended format with some extra encounters.

one I wrote myself, it's a simple Find a guy lost in the Woods, Find out guy has run afoul of local "Pot" (or something that is a close approximation their of) Farmers. I use it to teach tracking, Combat, Stealth/Perception and Evasion.

I posted it hear a wile back, and it was well received, it was (with my permission) reposed on one of the Resource sights, If you can't find it I'll repost it hear later.

Ok got some time to post the run down on Fridays game, we went 8+ hours so got Darkness Before the Dawn done in just over two, King Under the Forrest took them about four then we did Shadow on the Mists (or at least most of it).

But first a better run down on the Characters there is

Lady Alus, the Sorceress she has pale skin and pale blond hair with grey eyes, there is nothing unusual about her starting kit but she did drop all her Coin on some simple jewellery. from under the Rocks she took the potion she doesn't need

"Lord" Tallas, the knight with the average stats, he's got a Baronet coming to him so he puts on the airs, along with his Plate Armor he traded his Sword & Sheild for a Two Handed Sword, despite doing nothing of note in Under the Rocks he claimed the Glory and all the Cash

Sir Kade, out Humble Knight, he downgraded his starting Armour and spent the proceeds on a normal Horse some Adventuring Gear and upping his Sword to a Long Sword, he walked away from Under the Rocks with the +1 Mace since in truth he was the Big Hero. I Should point out that so far Sir Kade has not ridden as he is too much of a gentleman to make Lady Alus walk

On to Darkness before the Dawn, after the arrival at Maiden's Vale they did all the Village stuff (except trying to storm the Manor) before heading off in to the woods. at the Rock Fall Alus DBed one thug and Kade skarpered up the cliff quick as you like and put down an other two before Tallas in his heavy kit made it to the top and to everyone's surprise hit the last guy first go (Tallas's player has problems landing blows but when he dose it's generally impressive). after that they got lost in the storm (both Knights failed their Track rolls) and stumbled across Old Mab who put them back on the right path, after tangling with Queen Fhionne's Doggies it was on to the fight with the Big Bad, Tallas took on the Minions, Kade squared off against the White Lady herself with his Magic Mace and Alus made a B-line for the magic pool. The Thugs fell quick than Tallas started to wrestle Sir Olvar, with Fhionne dead Alus had to risk touching the Rune to free him from his madness as the hall collapsed around them, wile Tallas made a grab for Treasure Kade dragged the still dazed Sir Olvar out. a bit of potion and magic healing later they headed back to the village, after Insults, Javelins and Spells where thrown the three knights walked up to the gatwe and together put in the "Mighty Boot" to the Village gate before lobbing in the collected heads of various Thugs and Hell Hounds, Sir Olvar then got his big speech

"I am Sir Olvar of the Vale, Rightful Lord of this Manor, at my back I have two Knights Renowned in their home Counties, and the Court Wizardess of Barron Gallory, Heroes who have freed this land of an Ancient Evil. I have returned for what is mine under the Law!" as this was going on the remaining henchmen ran for the far gate and Le Cloche for the Manor House, the villages returned to the Street when the heroes reached the manor Sir Olvar continued "Come out Cousin and I Swear you shall face the Kings Court and not the Quick Justice of those you have wronged." Le Cloche said "Never I have Swords of my own coming I can wait!" Sir Olvar replied "These Heroes and the Village are behind me Now, We have Magic and Right on our side, How long till your Thugs arrive? You have to sleep sometime Cousin!" as the day broke and wore on their was lots of Rabble Rabble from the villagers and every time Le Cloche came to a window someone threw something at him or tried to stab him in the face, people where on the Roof and at the Windows, he came out the next evening. After the flinging of Insults, Stones and Night-soil there was more Speachafing by Sir Olvar even the characters got in on the act and the Villagers where all sent off to bed after they saw Le Cloche locked up in the pig sty, next day saw a Feast to celebrate the Harvest, the Birth of the new Lordling and the PCs, then after a few days resting (and the making of a new wardrobe for Lady Alus who ruined her dress on the adventure) they where off to Axbridge to meet up with the Kings Highway to deliver Le Cloche to the Kings Court.

I'll post the other two adventures later in the week.

Nice report, man.

We are also still into "Dragon Warriors". We´ve played the adventure "A weak pleasure" on friday. I think we will go on now with "The Elven Crystals" and then head back to "Sleeping Gods".

Needless to say Sir Olvar overplayed the characters abilities and renown, Kade is a nobody in his home Shire (let alone County) and the Lordling Tallas would be a bigger nobody if he wasn't the son of a Lesser Barron, Lady Alus only qualifys as he fathers court wizard by default because when she's at home she's the only known Spell Caster.

I have the rest of the campaign planed out, not saying what adventures will be done and in what order as some of my players lurk on these forums, but in a fortnights time we'll open with a RP interlude to finish out the Maidens Vale Arc where the fate of Le Cloche is reviled and that of Beorn who they ran afoul of in Shadow on the Mists.
