B5 Open Day - the aftermath

Mongoose
Well, that was fun!

My photos can be seen here.

Before the gaming started, I took the opportunity to get a Victory class destroyer at reduced price - I have evil ideas involving a scratch-built, larger scale model, using this for reference, which will have an afterburner.

As it turned out, I wasn't one of the lucky ones to join Claudia Christian for the RPG, but I did get four helpings of Sector 49. I'd brought my Shadows and was fielding two Scouts plus four fighters, though as we were (mostly) using strict 2E rules, I didn't know if the fighters would do any good. The Scouts, being organic, had been fed the night before to keep their strength up. It paid off - they defeated a pair of White Stars plus fighter escort in Sector 49 round 1, obliterated two more White Stars plus two Blue Stars in round 2, and just for variety, had some fun with a Delphi, an Assault Hyperion and a regular Hyperion in round 3. My one big mistake was in round 4; the young lad's White Star was destroyed early on, so I let him back into the battle with a Shadow Scout, then he switched sides and started shooting at me! The EA side had more ships, so I always had to move before him, which at least meant the lad got to destroy something. Such generosity will not be repeated, nor will it be needed - he's now the proud owner of a small but growing Vorlon fleet...

I also got to watch Claudia, assisted by the same kid, command an Omega and Hyperion against a Primus and two Vorchans. Ivanova and a kid against probably Ivanova's number 1 fan; the result was a foregone conclusion.

Stuff signed: a Be Five CD and two flight base stands. Claudia was puzzled as to what the clear plastic disc was, so I assembled the stand and put a White Star on top. I don't know what's going on the other stand; someone else on the forum will know that. ;)

Nice. You're so going to have to video that launch :)

I was planning on sending you down with the Revel Starfury base to sign, but I was being very forgetful that week. I might have to try and source something different rather than just copy your White Star idea.

sooo anyone else play any games - where there cool scenarios and such?

Did I read that right, LBH comanding the Centauri warships!!

Played in a small sector 49 bash and faced the cheesy stealthy minbari fleet vs Earth Force. :(

Played in the Claudia Christain involved RPG. And won the signed scenario.... :D 8). Had a good laugh and enjoyed myself.

And it was true LBH was destroyed playing Centauri vs Claudia and small wide eyed 8 year old Nathan :D

Yup I played in 2 games against Nathan on the day, once playing Centauri, and once playing Shadows.

It's a toss up whether the view is better playing on the same team as Ms Christian, or on the opposite team 8) Harder to hide your blushes on the opposite side of the table though

LBH

I so need to get stationed somewhere near somewhere where these things happen. I have all sorts of stuff I'd have Ms CC sign...

And I could actually play against other people on a regular basis

Thanks for the pictures Adrian. I'd love to go to an event attended by the beautiful Claudia Christian, but alas an ocean separates us. Instead we all get to live vicariously through your pictures! 8)

get stationed at fairford in the UK :D then you would be just down the road for mongoose events.

Been there. Only a small contingent of us Yanks at RAF Fairford nowadays. Better bet for the UK would be Lakenheath or Mildenhall which aren't that much farther away. Other choices would be Croughton, Alconbury and a few other smaller sites.

Cheers, Gary
- stationed in the UK for 11.5 years in North Yorkshire (1993 - 2005). Absolutely loved it (though it could have rained slightly less and I wouldn't have complained) ;-)

I could have sworn Fairford was closed...

Down by South Cerny(sp?), right? I used to live there many moons ago...

right place. and its still there, although not many americans there now. just down the road from me at brize norton

Yeah, last I saw as of about three years ago was just a few US flight line guys for the mission. That's about it.

Cheers, Gary
