B5 Novels and Trades?

Mongoose
Its pretty old news, but has this idea been tossed out by Mongoose? From reading the front page of the B5 RPG section, this was supposed to be back in late 05.......

JMS commented that it wouldn't be canon, did the fans react badly to the idea?

This is what I recall, based on web information, which is likely rumour, innuendo and half-truths.

The graphic novels were never really going to happen, because DC apparently still has the licence.

The novels:

Mongoose gained the licence from Warner Brothers to publish new novels. This was licenced and therefore official.

JMS objected publicly and said they were not canon because he had not approved anything.

Mongoose and JMS got together.

JMS read some early drafts, didn't like them, and was openly and publicly critical.

Mongoose stated they had agreed not to continue with this.

During this process a preview copy on Matthew's Sprange's novel Visions of Peace was printed and sold at aMongoose event. I believe there were very limited numbers - 50, I think.

Recently Ranger Dawning, another novel, was made freely available on the internet by the author, but pulled after a short time for copyright reasons.

It was actually made available for free download via LuLu.com, but was pulled due to their policy of not publishing fan fiction. It is still available through the Mongoose forums via Reborn or Last Best Hope.

Indeed,

Anyone who'd like a copy of the Ranger Dawning pdf emailed to them, please PM me with the details.

It was a real disappointment to me when this didn't work out since I was just getting started with the actual writing when I caught word that the project was dead. While I regret not getting to play in this playground, I do respect JMS's creative sovereignty, and wish him well with the future of B5, in whatever form it may eventually take.

I have since turned my love of space opera once more to Star Trek. I'm in the process of pitching some Star Trek: The Next Generation novel proposals; there's one in particular that I hope gets picked up because it's my idea of the last movie that could have been (a plot as epic as any of the movies. It involves Cardassians and takes place shortly after Insurrection).
