Ok.. I'm going through the Armoured Companies book and thinking, can I recreate contemporary armour with these rules. Stay tuned for Armour from our world, stat'd up using the AComp. rules.

First up will be the classic Russian workhorse the T-90, then the T-95 followed by the Challenger II and Bradley and Abrams...

;)

stay tuned!

Jase :)

Alright here's the T-90, mainstay of Russian supplied armoured forces

edit: ok..its not formatting quite so cool as i wanted.. uploading to the Armageddon:2089 yahoogroup

Not bad.
A couple minor changes are in line though.

Change adv comms for standard comms. the 2089 adv comms would be equal to modern command systems.

Reduce NBC shielding to standard chem-bio shielding. AFAIK no modern tanks have dedicated radiation shielding, it is provided by the armor.

ahh ok.. under the specs I found for the T-90 it specifically states NBC shielding/protection.. I'll look into it..
as for the comms yeah I was trying to decide between the two systems. It was a bit of a tricky decision. What I found interesting was the level of systems found in a 10 year old tank compared to what was predicted for 2089 in the Armoured Companies. From memory there isn't a MBT that has as many systems as the T-90 did that would fill a similar role. I understand that Meks would be taking over from that role, but i find it hard to believe that the evolution of the standard tank would simply stop. Perhaps thats where supertanks come in... *shrugs*

p.s. for those who might be interested in future directions for land combat...

The advantage of Adv. Comms is that a single user can access several functions at once without penalty.

The NBC shielding on modern vehicles tends to be a semi sealed crew compartment with a filtered overpressure air supply. It keeps out chem-bio agents and fallout. I doubt they have much if any lead shielding since the steel armor provides significant shielding against gamma radiation.

I havent had time to look at the stats you gave the T-90 but dont forgot to add an active defense system or several interceptors and a countermeasueres launcher with electronic warfare equipment to replicate the arena/ Shtora-1 active passive missle defense systems T-90 are equipped with

some websites for more info are

for the shtora http://armor.kiev.ua/fofanov/Tanks/EQP/shtora.html

and for the arena http://www.pml.tno.nl/en/pt/arena.html

scratch the part about the last post on the shtora i finally got my browser to show me the stats you made and you included it but you may want to still add the active defense or interceptor to simulate the arena defense system and a coutermeasure launcher firing hot smoke since the shtora does include an anti laser aerosol grenade launcher

IMHO the Countermeasures Launcher far exceeds modern smoke launchers.

A single use launcher would be more realistic, maybe a cost and mass equal to a single reload for the launcher.

I agree on the one shot thing for the counter measuer launcher but instead of just one shot for the entire tank i suggest one shot for each tank arc forward left right and back since presumably the tank would have dischargers on each arc to cover all possible attack angle but would not have an internal magazine of countermeasures.

Also to add a little more realism to the dischargers a special rule for the them would be that the smoke only effects the side of the tank it was discharged from. Since the Shtora being an a soft active system would only discharge smoke on the side that would be effected

AFAIK smoke launchers are mounted in the forward arc of the turret, although they may have more than one shot. I have seen launchers mounted on each corner of a HMMWV.

I would go with two options:

Single shot launcher with 360 degree coverage (standard for warmechs)

Turret mount with four charges that cover 90 degree arch each.
