Armor

This is a GM preferance question.

PCs have just finished a fight, and they go about scavaging the dead. Let's say one of them sees some armor that they wish to take.

How do you run this, as a GM?

My impression of Conan is that its much more than the old D&D "Hey! There's some +1 Chain! Grab it!" And, that's it.

Does the armor fit? How damaged is it? Can it be altered for the character?

So, how do you run this type of thing in your games? What has to take place for a PC to take some armor off a dead NPC?

What has to take place for a PC to take some armor off a dead NPC?

Basically a willingness to loot the dead. For the most part i base it on how the player has decided his height/weight/build will be for his character. Averages vary in the diffferent nations, what may fit the 'average' Kothian wont fit the 'average' Vanir usually without some discomfort(usually an increase to the armour check penalty and in severe cases a decrease on the max dex).

Can it be altered for the character?

Generally yes. Everything has a price.

How damaged is it?

I use the armour damage rules as is the rule book mostly, sometimes particularly with bandits and pirates ill rule the npc hadnt been taking very good care of their armour and it will count as having been damaged already(lost dr).

So, how do you run this type of thing in your games?

Whim mostly with the occasional pc luck check made (d20 + cha mod)

Mostly, I assume that any light armour will fit. It has buckles and things, and is usually made for mass issue to an army anyway.

Chain is similar, although full chain suits may need adjustments.

Anything with plates, breastplate for example, will fit anyone with a similar Str (I usually assume 2 points either way.

Plate armour will not fit. It is designed for the person and will nedd an armourer's attention. even then, extreme changes will not be possible.
