Emperor Mongoose
I want to wish everyone on the board who is a veteran of their nation's military a happy Armistice Day [or local variant].
I'm not banging the drum for this military or that one, this cause or that one, this flag or that one. We all joined 'the military' for our own reasons, from job or educational opportunities, to gaining maturity, to a requirement by law, and one reason is as good as another. At the end of the day, you know what it means to serve, to sacrifice, and to be part of something greater than yourself for good or ill.
I also want to respectfully acknowledge those whose service was an altogether negative experience. 'The military' is a hard and very unforgiving life. It's a life where 'things happen' that are often unpleasant, sometimes criminal, and almost always humiliating. These things happen to all of us, but some folks have a rougher time of it than others. But they are still in the 'Siblinghood' and should never be overlooked.
"Civilization sleeps undisturbed in its bed but for sake of rough men [sic] willing to do violence on its behalf."
-- George Orwell [and yeah, I never fail to get the irony in that one]
