Armegeddon Help

Banded Mongoose
Thanks to all the great ship viewers out there, my group has access to the armegeddon ships, even though we do not have the book. I am a little hesitant to buy the book with the second edition coming out, supposedly, soon, so I was wondering if there were any new rules that would be needed to use the Armegeddon ships, or if the ships from those lists could be used with the rules in the basic set and Sky Full of Stars.

Their were a few rules changes, but nothing really that changes the game in any dramatic fashion. Despite some of it's more opbvious faults, SFOS is still a good ruleset, and with the shipviewers correcting things like Var'Nic Ion cannons to precise, then you should be able to get along well enough. You "could" loose out at a tourney though, wondering why the heck everyones fighters fire first ;-)

Var'Nics have Ion Cannons!? They're not even in the game yet! :P

Only other major rules changes that come to mind are that all fighters are now the base CQ for their fleet (usually 4) and give 1VP per flight destroyed (not in the book, but ruled by Matt Sprange. Controversially.) You've probably seen the Stealth changes already (+1 over 20", -1 below 8"). Think there's some changes to the breakdown costs for buying fleets at the lower PLs but I don't have my books to hand.

me and my chums are just getting back into B5 right now and i've just ordered the armegeddon book, it's a little dissapointing to hear that it will be obsolete soon :(. also a couple of my mates are looking into buying ACTA and some fleet boxes, should they hold off?

It will be at least 6 months before 2Edition appears.
And thats likely to get pushed back further since delays to deadlines are normal.
I wouldn't let that put you off :)

Actually Armageddon states that all Aux craft have a CQ of 4, nothing to do with base fleet CQ, though the Rangers do get their bonuses

That's what I meant by base CQ. All aux. ships are CQ4 with any bonuses as per their respective fleets. In one-offs ISA ships and flights would all be CQ5. As you said.

So there should be no problem with using the ships then? I doubt anyone is going to take the Vorlon, so far everyone has shied away. And I think another post explained the GEG pretty well. My next question is:_

Our plan was to choose out of SFOS and take 10 battle level points each. Since we will be using the Armegeddon fleet lists, I thought of making it 8 Priority Level War Fleet Allocation Points. This would allow for the taking of Armegeddon Level ships but limiting the number as the players would have to take some smaller ships as well. The idea was to have a pool, like that used in a campaign that we would choose, print out and laminate so that ship selection each night would go faster.

Would 8 War seem right?

The all ships CQ4 thing only applies to one off games and or tourneys where that is agreed, in campaign games CQ is randomly decided, which is why I stated my clarification.

Fighters have CQ4 (plus/minus any special moidifiers) even if they come from a mother ship with CQ 2, or even CQ 6 in a campaign or one off game.

Well, I think we are going with 8 war points, so here are three options I am leaning towards:

Earth Alliance Third Age:
3 Hermes Transports
1 Hyperion Assualt Cruiser
3 Olympus Corvettes
2 Oracle Scout Cruisers
2 Hyperion Cruisers
2 Nova Dreadnoughts
1 Tantalus Assualt Cruisers
1 Avenger Heavy Carrier
3 Omega Heavy Destroyers
1 Omega Command Destroyer
1 Warlock Advanced Deastroyer

Earth Alliance Early Years
3 Hermes Transports
3 Artemis Frigates
2 Hyperion Assault Cruisers
3 Olympus Corvettes
3 Oracle Scout Cruisers
3 Sagittarius Cruisers
2 Avenger Heavy Carriers
5 Hyperion Cruisers
3 Nova Dreadnoughts
4 Orestes Monitors

Both of these fleets are designed to allow me to select ships for any scenario and not have to worry about missing a game because I do not have anything at that priority level, at higher level games I have the choice of swarming with smaller ships or bringing in a few heavy hitters

The third option is an ISA fleet

6 Vree Varka Escort Scouts
6 Whitestars
2 WSC-2 White Stars
1 White Star Carrier
1 White Star Gunship
1 Victory Class Destoryer

see the armageddon points breakdowns. you can get more for your points, at least into the ISA force.
also if you go ISA dont bother with the gunship, its a waste of time. and take more WSs, they are the mainstay of your force at all levels of play.
