Are some of the dates out in the early years Earth alliance

Mongoose
Hello. Just wondering if some of the in service dates are a bit out of whack for the earth alliance early years. I used to play the fleet action game and avenger carriers were available for the dilgar war. Our group sticks to the in-service dates you see. Anyone else think the same?

Not for the Early Years list (I'm still sure the EA 3rd Age Avenger and Badger's dates need looking at). The AOG ship details won't necessarily agree with Mongoose's due to differences in the rules mechanics and balance issues. I used to stick to ISDs with 1e, less so now as I don't agree with some of the changes. With EA fleets I allow them to use anything in whichever fleet list is appropriate for the campaign date rather than specific ISDs now.

One thing to remember is that the ISDs are listed for that particular version of the ship, _not_ when that class of ship first came into service. The very first Hyperion or Nova (say), would have far less firepower than those listed, but we went with the more up to date ones.

I guess if you wanted to simulate a Dilgar war period Avenger you could lose the Pulse weapons and replace them with range 4 Light Plasma Cannons, and restrict your fighter loadout to Tiger or Nova Starfuries.
It depends if your group can agree to playing 'historical' scenarios/campaigns vs Fleet list driven competition games.

I know, and that's fine for virtually all ships. But (in my Fleet Book version anyway- I've got one of the early editions) the Avenger's ISD for the Third Age fleet ends before the list is supposed to start. Which is a nuisance if you're playing someone who is a Rules Lawyer :) .The Badger's ISD starts later than it appears in the series (and is never seen again, making me suspect it went out of service when the Thunderbolt was introduced) although it's ISDs are a matter of conjecture anyway so your version is perfectly valid. Just don't agree with them. Obviously I can use either one during the whole Third Age era as long as I ignore the ISDs, so it's hardly a problem anyway.
