Applying damage?

Lets say you take 16 damage and you have all average (7's) stats in End, Str, and Dex. Is this character knocked unconcious (not using the knockout optional rule) or can he distribute the remaining damge between the 2 reamining stats and remain conscious but seriously wounded?

The rule book states that damage from a single attack must be subtracted from a single statistic.

So I take 7 damage from 17 and I'm left with 10. All this remaining damage has to be applied to one statistic, knocking him unconscious? or could I take off 5 and 5 and remain conscious although seriusly wounded?

Thanks

I think his Endurance is reduced to 0 and then you can split the damage.

But, the knockout rule would imply that a second stat would be reduced to 0 and the remaining applied to the third, knocking him out.

Rules are often open to interpretation but I think it is pretty clear if you tie in the whole paragraph. Let me include more of the quote.

Damage is applied initially to the target's Endurance. If a target is reduced to Endurance 0, then further damage is subtracted from the targets Strength or Dexterity (targets choice, but all damage from a single attack must be subtracted from a single statistic). If either Strength or Dexterity are reduced to 0, the character is unconscious and any remaining damage is subtracted from the remaining physical characteristic.
To me, damage goes to one stat at a time until it hits 0 then you decide which stat is next to take damage. At no point does it indicate you can split up damage.

IMO no matter how you end up splitting it up, if someone is hit that hard they are going to be unconscious or in shock and are OoC.
