Animal Encounters - Animal Sizes Missing

Mongoose
Enyone else notice that the sizes (mass) if animal encounters are missing in the final descriptions in the core rule book.

I'm finding the same omission in an S&P article I am reading.

This is an important stat for hunter type animals.

Comments?

LOTS of animal encounters forget to list the size of the creature.

I agree, it is an important stat that gets left off a lot.

Shame really.

There is a significant difference between getting pounced on by a bobcat as opposed to a housecat.

This thread caused me to dig into the attic. Pulled out CT's Supplement 02 - Animal Encounters.

Great tables for different types of worlds. IF you can get a copy I highly recommend it.

Good idea.

LBB's are somewhere in my parents basement.
Might have a PDF somewhere on my old server.

It's also available on the Classic Traveller CD from FFE.

I am hoping that the Mongoose version of this book has similar tables, but expanded for Temperature!

As well as updated/expanded/corrected creation tables.

The MGT Core book chapter on animal encounters is just the latest mutant in a long line of mutants from the CT original. The tables have been shifting, losing DMs and instructions, gaining new DMs and instructions, challenging biological and genre assumptions at every turn, and generally not been the same thing twice since CT.

The game does need some animal size comparatives, true - actually indicating how physically large the species is, as compared to its typical inertial mass.

True, and I would very much prefer to have the information as a part of
an animal's description, but in most cases it is not difficult to estimate the
size based upon the data. The first of the examples in the core rules pro-
bably has a mass between 100 kg and 200 kg, and as a more or less hu-
manoid creature it probably has the size of a gorilla.
