Adira has no detail

I'm scanning the new Adira when I noticed that there is no freakin' detail on the new Centauri super ship AT ALL. It's smooth as a baby's bottom. Even the vertical fins are smooth. There's nothing on this piece of slag to please a wash or a dry-brush. It's a nice shape, but as for a miniature, as for a ship that matches the rest of the fleet, where are the panel lines? the feathers? the DETAILS?!

We're all stoked at having new models, this is weak....

What do you mean no details? The only lack of detail I see on the Adira is where the mold's gone all funny and left a rough pit on each of the big wings.

Plus it's a big freakin' ship... scale-wise, you're going to lose all those details you want.

Scale has nothing to do with it. It's all design.

Compare the level of detail on the Octurion to the Adira. That should say it all. A canvas as big as the Adira should be a figure painters dream. There should be subtle details that the painter could pick out or ignore, there should be interesting lines and details to blend it with the rest of the fleet. It's quite a disappointment.

I've built many space ships and figures in my career of mis-spent time (http://www.nugax.com) and I can tell you that I wish the Adira's molds had collapsed as well and they could fix it.

Yes "paint the detail yourself" - common defense for an inferior figure. I could build one myself too. I could could play another game. I could spend my free time elsewhere.

Really, it's not like the rest of the Centauri fleet is smooth - they're not. This is wrong and we know it. My criticism is real. Gamers will notice the lack of detail. I'm thinking of new players who're familiar with the level of detail offered by other games. This is a hobby.

Animus has a very valid point. IMO the Adira (followed by the Neroon) was the best of the Armageddon sculpts but as the owner of a Centauri fleet they do have a lot of detail along the hull. It's obvious from the pic that the Adira has no lines or detail where say the Octurion or Primus have a wealth of detail.

However of all the Armageddon ships it is least in need of a re-do, certainly the Liati needs it 1000% more!

This is a problem with a lot of the new models. The Hyperion actually got a resculpt and the new version doesn't have any panel lines either. The entire forward hull is smooth and featureless. The ones pictured in the rulebook are the older ones and they clearly have moulded panel lines (not painted on).

Very disappointing. :(

This was my first and still bigest problem with all of the new sculpts. They lack the fine details of panel lines. Compare the Warlock and the Nemesis. The Nemesis hull is semented like a bug, while the Warlock has numerous small panel sets. I was able to make a fairly good conversion of a Nemesis for FA scale, because it required very little detail work. (Seven segmented lines rather than 30-40 for the Warlock) The Adira and Neroon both look like cheap forgeries of an as-yet-unreleased original.

For their part, the Z'Takk revision definately corrected this problem.

Well, I was actually thinking about getting one, but you guys have convinced me. I see exactly what you're talking about, now that I've compared models.

Yes thats exactly the problem with armageddon....

Huge loss of detail for no known reason (well at least i dont know one...). What i never get is why bigger models have less detail. Isnt more space there fore extra detail? i mean even if it would be just a scaled up Oct, itd have more detail....

Oh and yes if you suggest, making that detail yourself. Then i can just go back to playing other games, where i get that detail without extra work. Or ill just buy the smaller and far more detailed Oct, and save myself money AND work ^^. Well all while MGP makes less money.

The Z'takk is a huge step in the right direction. Extra detail, just means mroe people are going to like it, and hence more people are going to buy it. Hence MGP makes more money ^^.

My theory is they were banking on the stats selling the minis..."Armageddon level? That's crazy firepower, I have to buy one!!!" So detail on the minis suffered - I'm guessing it's more expensive to add said detail. And there was much sadness.

But Mongoose has redeemed themselves with the new Z'takk. This is the level of refinement we - as miniature wargamers - expect to purchase and hope to field on our glorious tabletops. And there was much rejoicing.

Why should a gamer have to model the model? After spending your hard earned money you should not have to spend countless hours to make the model look the way it should have from the first. If it has lots of detail and a modeler wants to add to the detail then my hats off to him. You should be able to expect at least a level of detail to make the model interesting. For the most part I am very satisfied with MGP. Hope that managment will continue to listen to the people.

yep prelude i guess thats what many companies do. Especially certain mini companies with a liking of armored troopers..... (blabla we all know who :P)

But funny enough the armageddon lvl ships are rather bad choices statwise, so there is little incentive from that direction.

Oh and yeah i prefer to ignore badly modeled minis that try to redeem themself by having uberstats......i really prefer the other way, sucky stats but great looking model :D

Just to play devils advodcate here second:

GW MAY overcharge, their magazine may be 200 pages of advertising and their games may be a bit on the broken side at times (though I still love WFB, BFG and Bloodbowl, so sue me :P) BUT I cant see where you can critisise them on lack of detail on their minis.

GW charge a king's ransom for their stuff but like it or not they ARE generally speaking very nice minis. Now if only they could produce a version of 40k that isnt won or lost in army selection.

I digress though.

The Armageddon minis were for the most part, not THAT bad but for the price that was being asked most of us expected much more. I dont mind the Adira that much but for the price I wouldnt touch it with a Bargepole. Bear in mind for the price of two of them you can nearly buy an entire FLEET BOX. A mini needs more going for it than sheer size to make it worth that kind of money imho.

Now the new Tzakk is much more like it and I can only hope the majority of the rest get similar treatment (especially the Chavioki :P)
