ACTA Suggestions

Not sure what to call this topic. I was wondering what other people's thoughts were for possible futures of ACTA.

I would like to see plastic card models like the Wizkids game Pirates has. I'm not suggesting a collectible game, but models like those. These would be kind of like super counters. These types of models might be cheaper in the long run. My idea is trying to accommodate the financial drain that ACTA miniatures production has. They might even be able to be made from cardstock. I'll have to try my hand at making a few...

Well it would be great to have the previously mentione dbook still - with rules updated and clarified, a new Gaim fleet list, a few more ships for certain fleets and a counter set for the whole game - be a nice package and something that may help a little..............

The game needs to have good quality usable counters available for new players to play with, included with the game or fleet book if at all possible. It's what sold me on the game to start with, could play it out of the box without having to buy any figures.

Yes, the 'miniatures optional' was what got me. I am scratch building some minis now, but I like the game along with the B5 universe. I like to think I have 'outgrown' the need for minis to make a game worthwhile. To each their own I guess...

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE figures, that's why I've got a collection now that is taking over the flat. But then modelling and painting figures is a hobby in it's own right for me.

However when I started, I wanted a ship combat game that I could try without having to buy and paint expensive figures.

There exists a company that is developing such a game: cardstock "slot-together" models. Not quite published yet.

My problem has always been construction. It's easier than painting, but still a pain, and the end result isn't as nice as a 3D model.

Personally would prefer good counters over the 3D card, which has all the drawbacks of figures, size, getting in each others way, restricted movement, without the benefit of being, well, figures!

Me too, but someone asked the question...

(Actually, I'd settle for mediocre counters. Just as long as they don't blow away when someone walks by the table, I'm good. The game's the thing.)

Matt, how about running a "last hurrah" event at Mongoose towers? See the game off with a bang and hopefully prove there's enough of us left to get it going again in a year?

A free-for-all random tournament could be fun, any fleets allowed (except Gaim...), names in a hat and play some games. What say you?

Oh, on a note (where we're already talking about counters):

Constructible cards like in Pirates would be great! Pack them flat, and they look pretty good. Not as good as minis, but pretty good, and much cheape and easier.

Personally, I just hate the look of constructed cards; flat counters are more than ok, but those constructed things look like they´ve been made for 6 year olds...
