[ACTA-SF] Weapons on Crippled Ships

Mongoose
In the section titled Crippled Ships on page 7 it says "In addition, a Crippled ship may only move a maximum of 6 inches in a turn and only one weapon system may be used while attacking."

Do the words "while attacking" imply that the rest of the weapon systems can be used for defending the ship from seeking weapons?

The rule doesn't say anything about weapon systems being destroyed. Does that mean I can select a different weapon system to attack with each turn?

If I use the Overload Weapons Special Action, am I forced to attack with the photons/disruptors or can I choose a different weapon system instead [maybe because no target is in arc of the overloaded weapon]?

As I understand it, yes - the crippling effect is more supposed to reflect the lower energy state of the ship limiting the abiliy to do 'stuff' - specific crits take out individual weapons and with the 'do over all the lower effects' on the crit table you can suddenly lose a lot of weapons systems with a couple of crits.
In this case the defensive fire option is low cost ph3 fire, drones and similar all doing limited energy burn.

Yes, you can use anything else you want - there's nothing limiting you to the photons only beyond your own choices.

Confirming what Myrm has already stated.
We play it the same way...
Most defensive fire takes so little power, we allow to occur even when crippled.
And yes, you can select a differnet weapon system each time. The systems are still there - you're just not generating enough power to use all of them every turn.

Yes. Selecting the Overload Weapons special action does not force you to only fire heavy weapons.

I am confused as to what one "weapon system" is for purposes of a crippled ship.

Does "weapon system" mean:

1)I can only choose to fire one bank of weapons on a ship (i.e. Crippled C8 Dreadnought - can choose to fire only the forward arc Phaser 1s with 2 dice and cannot fire the port or starboard half 1s with 4 dice); or

2) does it mean I can fire all weapons on the ship of a single type and class (i.e. Crippled C8 Dreadnought - can fire all Phaser 1s on the ship including forward, port and starboard half arcs); or

3) does it mean I can fire all weapons of a single type (i.e. All phasers including Phaser 1s, 2,s and 3s; All plasma regardless type)?

The group I have been playing with as interpreted it as number 1).

A weapon system is one line on the ship description.....

So the assorted phaser banks on a Fed are different systems, the different plasma torpedoes on a Romulan are all different systems etc - so your option 1
