[ACTA:SF] Looking for clarification about Escorts

general point re the new escorts - some of whihc have a lot of those bloody drones themselves is that a mainly phaser based weapon array allows for very effective use of Power Drain......

Wait to see hydran escorts - Phasers only, and 5 of them being gatlings on the Antelope Hunter. Power drain is meaningless to that ship, and given that it packs so much punch (20 ph3 shots, 2 Ph2, 2 Ph1) I can see APE and go kill.

I think this sort of question came up on the boards a while back, when an equivalent Escort Trait was added to A Call to Arms: Noble Armada (for House Hazat's Allat escort).

EDIT: Found it.

Essentially, which of the following needs to be true for the escort:

1) The target ship needs to be in arc of your gatlings (which makes sense to me).

AND/OR

2) The firing ship/boarding ship needs to be in arc of the gatlings (which is required for a ship to fire its own gatlings).

Three possibilities:

A - Defended ship must be in arc (and range), attacker's position doesn't matter.
B - Attacker must be in arc, defended ship must be in range but position doesn't matter.
C - Both attacker and defended ship must be in a single gatling arc, and defended ship in range.

1 and A are correct - the rule does not say anything about the enemy!

I should note that the "gatlings" refer to a diffrent kind of weapon to ACtA:SF's Phaser-Gs.
