(ACTA:SF) Critical effects to shields?

I just want to check I'm interpreting the "lose 5 Shields" and "shields to 0" critical effects correctly. I'm assuming they reduce both the current shield points and maximum/starting rating and thus reduce the effectiveness of the "Boost Energy to Shields!" special action.

Also does repairing the criticals restore the lost shield points or must a ship use "Boost Energy to Shields!" to restore them?

That's how I've been playing it regarding damage. I let the ships regain shield points on repairing criticals as well (need all the help they can get), don't know if that's correct.

We play it that the -5 is temporary and doesn't affect the starting score. It can certainly be repaired. I don't think the shields to 0 has ever come into effect, as the ship is usually destroyed by that point.

OK so from the FAQ:
"If I get a –5 Shields result from a critical hit, do I deduct that from my current or starting (maximum) Shields?
From your starting Shields score – if this reduces the starting score below your current score (and you haven’t boosted your
shields this turn), then reduce your current Shields to the new maximum."

Meaning I was half right and it does take a "Boost energy to shields!" special action to get your shields back up after you repair the criticals.
