ACTA RIP....

ShopKeepJon, I think that was said as much by Matt's announcement. He stated that the foundry needed 2-3 lines of minis to be viable. Since it was deemed that SST and ACTA wasn't enough to carry the load, the decision was made to close down the minis production.
I know...

I posted my explanation to help the "but they were making money on ACTA" crowd understand the situation...

Gotcha. :D

Nice work again BuShips seems time of the pogs has returned :D

Avaters and sigs are still killing me tho :P

I recommend Dramamine or possibly Meclizine for the motion sickness. :P

I'll give due consideration for a change. Maybe it's time for a CTA-themed avatar. I started with a "Death From Above" avatar over 2 years ago tied to SST, then switched last year to a more logically-themed avatar better connected with my forum name. Hmm, I just finished my first miniature, a Nova.

Not to detract from BuShips good work, but mixing counters and minis is a lot like putting ice cream on your hot dog. Tastes aren't bad separately, but it's not my idea of a good topping...

I have to agree that miniatures making a comeback is highly unlikely. by the wording it almost sounded like they will essentially be halting everything and bringing THINGS (rules/books) back online in 2009. Suppose them ebaying everything in relation to minis kinda supports this as does the fact that there hasn't been any responses from MGP for quite a few pages. And then theres the fact that they mentioned a shift in any future books to scenarios/campaigns which is obviously cheaper then ships/fleets since they don't have any balance/testing/time sinks.

does not bode well for an ACTA revival. although unlikely assuming mongoose lets B5 go hope someone else will pick it up. i don't care if the minis are plastic/prepaint/metal/big/small so long as someone somewhere will pick up the ball.....just hoping :)

I'm a SAD SAD monkey boy :(

I completely agree. I'm about the biggest fan of miniatures for gaming you'd find. If miniatures are not going to be available for the forseeable future, then counters will have to suffice. At least by posting the idea, it might stir someone to offer something that hadn't been thought of yet for a miniature proxy (like a vastly new low price for holographic projection, heh).

I would assume my suggestion, then, is not viable? (Pg. 25).

Well, it had been said that the license with WB didn't permit other options (see page 13, about halfway down).

Also, you probably did not know that the production was already in the US, which was part of your suggestion.

I'm guessing that it has something to do with the transition of the miniatures from the old AoG (Agents of Gaming) to Mongoose. Over different time periods, both companies have had licenses with WB.

As much as I wanted to collect the miniatures for the game, I'll be complacent (for awhile) if Mongoose offers a nice counter set for the fleets. This way I get to introduce myself to the game. :D

That seems to hit the spot :P but i am gonna give those avatar and sigs  :D.

I like your updated avatar better tho.

I totally agree i would buy/download them for sure. Just wont have the same feel as it does with proper ships but a good altertive.

Well, this really does blow. I made some good inroads in regard to getting people interested in this game, and they stop making the minies.

this sucks ill still play the game but I guess ill have to buy my fleets from ebay. counters are nice to get people interested and trying different fleets but A lot of people nowadays need cool visual stuff like modles and terran to be interesting lots of people like eye candy. I play with modles or counters cause I enjoy the game but to get new people into table top games most would need somethin 3d I suppose is the way to put it to really keep them hooked. there is a disscussion on the battletech forum about hex maps or terrian its quite interesting its split on people who like/dislike it. I hope in the future they restart the modle line again I like building and painting and converting modles. Not a big fan of pre paints but for people with little time and money there great.

Have to disaggree with you there.

I only got into ACTA because when I got the game, you could play it straight out of the box. Had the rules and all the counters you needed in one package. When trying out a new game where you don't have somebody local who already has it, this is a GOOD THING. Spend £20 or whatever on the game and get to play the game that very day. Not having to lay out hundreds of pounds to purchase figures, just to discover if you like the way the game plays is a great selling point.

Don't get me wrong, I do like figures and painting figures is a major feature in my spare time (which is why almost all of my fleets are painted), but counters are an advantage in getting serious gamers interested.

I think that has a bit to do with mentality as well. Some just stay with counters cause they are to lazy to start painting (mind you, this is all their fair right, everyone divides his time like he wants to) and then drop out cause they only have some cardboard counters and the rest plays with painted 3d models

i dont think nothing gets people hooked more on a game than a decent set of good looking minis.
after your hooked, yea sure buy a set with counters till you can afford to replace those with your chosen minis, this will probably never happen now.
it may be a big gripe, that im sure someone will shoot me down in flames for..BUT...
lets get one thing straight first.

I LOVE B5, so dont get me wrong here,
but we as the buyers of these minis have long since moaned of the appalling quality of the models, which is not necessary, as many company make exellent quality metal minis, whith a hell of a lot more detail than b5.
this i assume is down to poor molds or casting process,
maybe not getting that right is one reason to stop, and try ppm.
which have their merrits but me for one hates, but you can still re paint them.

the change to ppp, is expensive maybe thats the trouble? sst,b5?

as i said i love b5, and will still play, as im sure all of us will with our own fleets, but the influx of new players is what makes a game, and i think that will be a very slow if not not at all process.

Most games sell better with mini's, not counters. If you set up a table, cover it with a black cloth, and set counters on it. You will get no where near the interest, as you would with a table covered in mini's.

In fact some of your classic 'Board Games' uses minis, to similar effect (monopoly).

So to say counters sells a game, is pure bunkum. Humans by nature, judge things on first impressions.

It'll be ashame with not been able to really buy any modals but i went out and bought a good few more centauri stuff and Ill contuine buying and playing it till the day i pretty much die :D

My centauri fleet had nearly tripled in size i started off with 20 modals now its like 50 modals now still waiting for the other 30 tho .

I am hoping to pull another fleet out next wage or 2, Not sure who tho mayby drazi or brakri.
