ACTA RIP....

You laugh, but I've seen 40k with weirder things than counters.

Mobile phone as a land speeder, DVD case as a wave serpent, foam card and empty bases as various things.

LOL...yes but these are not really what you would see in White Dwarf :)

Hmm I dunno, Only one of the people at our club has grabbed miniatures, compared to I think about 6 with the boxed sets. The boxed sets did and do seem to sell out regularly in the local shops, whereas the minis seem to sit there.

Having played with both minis and card profiles I find the minis a royal pain in the butt myself. Look nice, interfere with the game to my mind. There's also been a couple of negative threads on the minis on TMP (though I guess its up to you as to how relevant that might be :)

However, the WWII variant seems to need and/or benefit from the altitude rules much more than the WWI version (where I find them a bit of a waste) and with 3D I would use minis more often as its far clearer than altitude counters.

I think what this all says is you will be hitting different optimal demographics with minis vs counters.

The game isn't coming back. Without models it's dead or dying as has been stated so clearly in the 30 pages of posts already on this thread. The only question I have is how long do we hang on? And do we bankrupt ourselves to collect the last pieces of miscast metal that remind us of a game and series we love?

ACTA is now just a collection - no longer a game. RIP.

What also bugs me is the big 20% off discount is swallowed up by taxes and 10% shipping/handling charges. I couldn't afford to buy from Mongoose directly in the past, now I'll have to go deep into debt to do it now. WARMACHINE....?

Better let the cousins know - all I ever see on TMP and other places is US customers lamenting how difficult it is to get hold of them!

However, The minis are extremely nice (and if anyone has aspare Belgian Camel that they want to get rid of then let me know) - although I don't use the rules as I have my own I've got a pile of the minis and am eagerly awaiting the second wave (plus there's some nice F-Toys biplane models that have just come out, hopefully the first of many)

I suppose it's possible for the min line to restart in 2009.
If they store all their equipment & the game seems like it's going to be still popular. Next year they say have orders in by certain date. They make the orders & store again. That way the assembly line works at full till the orders are done. But then im not sure on how easy it's going to be pack up the gear & find a new place to make them in ( presuming they have seperate place for it). This way they won't have a 1 year lease & maybe use casual staff for the factory so no wages going out all year for something not running at full capacity. Should cut down the costs of running things a lot. They might still be able design new models in their spare time as well so existing fleets will want the new additioins.
It will be just like waiting round for duck shooting season except it will be model buying season & less feathered friends don't end up on the dinner table.
Lot of if's in this.

More sad news for those who don't know.
Ian Bairstow, aka Mongoose old bear, aka just old bear, has been made redundant from Mongoose. These are not good signs.

"made redundant"? You mean he was "sacked," "fired," "let go," "laid off," "downsized," "given his walking papers," "compassionately conserved," or "NAFTA'd?"

So what`ll be next, the cancellation of SnP due to costs? Hostile Take over? Invasion of three legged martians that come and steal or women (okay, that might be not to hard to swallow, as long as they don`t steal my ships)...

In all fairness, seems there is a lot happening upthere, hope it`ll start clearing up soon...
