ACTA RIP....

My question to a lot of you who are thinking of quitting:

How much enjoyment are you currently getting out of the game? If you are still having fun, what's stopping that from continuing? I know I've moved on from other games as I lost interest in the past. I like B5:ACTA and I plan to continue playing it for some time. Eventually maybe I'll get tired and start playing something else. All I'd recommend is get the figs you don't have that you need for your fleet and keep playing with the same folks you are now. As long as I'm still having fun I know I will.

In short, to quote something I heard a long time ago:

"Alles hat ein Ende. Nur ein Würstchen hat zwei."

All hail the Mongoose!

Come on guys they gave you the best game around in years, and on the whole they gave you it cheap. They put up with moans and groans, of which I submitted many, and they did so with good grace. The evil empire shut down their forums when they started getting negative. At least we have always had the chance to say what we think and have a reasonable expectation of being listened to.

Matt you must be totally gutted, I can't imagine any company making this decision without having a knife to their throat. If it's bury the minis or bury the company them my vote goes for bury the bloody minis and get on with publishing new books.

Ok so we don't get spanky new ships. Who gives a toss, use something else. there are plenty of other companies making space ships, and as has been said god knows how many pages earlier, who the hell knows what a Naroon looks like.

This is the time the company need the support of its customers, keep the game alive for a year and see what happens. ShopKeeper Jon's suggestion of quality card counters is a good one, there are plenty or board games out there with really high quality card tokens and counters, why not ACTA? Better than nothing isn't it? And if it comes i at half or less than half the price are you going to turn away from a great game because of it?

As for the next books, well, for me, it's a blank sheet now, come out with the faq and corrections for 2nd ed. Update the shadow fighters, give us different fleets for Centauri Houses, a Mars fleet, Minbari Caste fleets. Give us decent campaigns, give us the painting guides (maybe not the painting guides) give us the stuff that will keep interest alive amongst the existing players in the hope that MGP survive to see the miniature line relaunched.

Hey Matt, am I too late to send in my old Motherships? I'll take other ships in exchange? (worth asking isn't it?)

One thing is certain, no one wants to see another company go under, this is our hobby, it's how we spend our time and our spare cash, it's what we are and what we do. Walk away now and you help build the coffin for a company that has done all it can to take the wishes of its customers into account.

Bugger me, I have been harsh on them in the past but at times like this.... if GW are closing stores down and suffering record slumps what hope does a little fish have without a little TLC?

- well I am updating my DR and have just submitted different (nromal)stuff to S+P - hopefully shiny stuff will continue - just not from MGP so much - though I have crossed fingers for a book................ :)

As will I. But then who knows, maybe when Mongoose gets their act together with regard to what they want out of a miniatures game (any game), then they do still hold the license and there's nothing stopping them from starting it back up again, just maybe in a smaller manner that's easier to manage. I won't hold my breath, but it's a thought.

Oh, and for those who want to blame this on the global recession, I think perhaps you need to do a little research. Unless I miss my guess, Mongoose has tried quite a few new ideas re: miniatures wargames in the past and few of them have panned out as well as they'd have hoped. Along the way they made decisions that had the other choices worked may have helped keep things in the miniatures line viable. That these decisions didn't work out are just the vagaries of business and hindsight is as always 20/20. All that matters right now is that they aren't profitable *right now*. And that's just business. I don't blame them and I'm not angry at them. At least they communicate with their customers about what's happening. I can't say the same for another large miniatures company that will go unnamed.

Does "though we still plan to bring things back on line in 2009" (from the Planet Mongoose article) mean that there is a slim chance that the miniatures will return next year Matt?
