ACTA RIP....

Uhhhh, I'm not gonna read all 19 pages so if I say something incorect, please gently correct me.

If it's just the minis, what's the big deal? Just like Mongoose bought the moulds from AoG, why can't another company by the moulds from MP? Plus, we players could probably all take a slight break from buying minis, right?

A lot of already have the ships we want and were only considering moving beyond our current fleet.

Basically, I'm trying to say it's not the end of the world. MP will still write stuff for the game and we can still buy the minis they have right now... and someone's gonna pick up the mini production at some point...

Plus, there is always eBay.

Let's all try and be a little more optimistic, shall we?

And this is coming from a guy who is natrually pesimistimic about everything.

at first i was sad and angry but i've had a good think and think counters will be good but the need to be good counters

Thanks, Bry.

I have to agree with the poster who said there are those of use who don't use minatures. I and my group are one. All of us don't have the spare time to paint minatures. We use counters, even print them out if we have to. We're impressed enough with the ruleset that all of us took a day off of work to play for 13 hours a couple of weeks ago. We've even started some testing of Star Trek conversions.

I also agree with the game owner. Some counters, on par with quality I saw with Star Trek Tactical Combat Simulator, would be nice.

Ok i calmed down placed an order ^^ and now i want to say, that we really need new counters now. And we need counters of good quality who are easy to read and with nice artworks on them!

Oh and please continue the support with books and S&P as that is really important to keep the community and the game alive!

I could be way out, but maybe there have been sharp increases in the cost of metals - doing a quick Google, I found: http://heresyminiatures.com/forumofdoom/index.php?topic=6344.0 and it explains why traditional style churches are "watching the skies".

All depends on what vital signs your looking for to declare a game alive or dead, really.

The game will be played for months, possibly years to come, by those groups of regular gamers that have extensive figure collections, so from that aspect, the game's still alive.

However from the hard financial angle that a games company has to look at a game from, once sales drop below a certain point, the game is dead and new money isn't going to be put into it.

Unfortunately from what Planet Mongoose and the earlier announcement are saying the world financial crisis might well mean that companies like Mongoose have to drop 'dead' games just to stay alive. All in all, it looks like ACTA is on it's death bed from a cold hard light of day view, even if some of us will probably be playing it for months or years to come.

As someone who's probably put more time and effort into this game than probably 90% of the people here, I've probably more right to complain about this than most, but that's just not the sort of guy I am. Unfortunately guys, we live in the real world and now our favorite game just caught a stray bullet from it.

All I can suggest is that those of us still in a position to play the game don't throw our figures out of the pram in anger, we keep pestering Mongoose so they know we want figures to come back so that they know the range would have player support, and hope that the American govenment doesn't plunge the world into a huge worldwide depression that will forever kill off ACTA.

Oh, and Matt, ACTA figures better be the first figures you bring back on line when Mongoose is able to produce figures again, otherwise ACTA players are likely to lynch you.

Yes Blame us americans. Its all our fault

Gorramit!

This kinda blows...just started playing my first(most likely the last) ever minature game and BANG!

Well, I got a fleet, my friends got their fleets, we can still play.

For the comments about counters, I hope u make em, but PLEASE make em good, just like a fellow said earlier good counters, just might work :)

I must say this is sad, very sad, I bet my friends are gonno be happy

Long live Babylon 5...Kinda feels like the same thing happened to Firefly(the the serie), got cancelled just when it showed its blossom

Well I havent chimed in with my usual rant on something of this magantude. However i dont think ill rant. I willsay Im disappointed and i do feel in a way that i have been lied to by mongoose But i understand that what they do is a buisness. As for those of you who say ohh its beacuase import taxes are too high or The Us Govt is putting the world into a recession, well id ask you to go get better informed about whats really setting off the slumping economies, and not what you hear from news outlets on TV (None Of them are trustworthy) and become a bit better informed. I havent decided yet if i want to buy more minis or just stay withe the 300+ ships i have. Ehh who knows. Ill see in the next few days. Although MR SPRANGE what will be teh customers redress options if they get a mispacking or poor quality miniature?

About a month or two ago I passed on a sweet deal of EA ships because it was pricy, even if it was a deal. Man am I glad I did that. I had been resisting buying minis for a long time because, well, the rule system was at best mediocre (with some serious flaws). But I really loved B5.

I'll be honest, the main reason I passed on getting started: trust. I don't trust Mongoose Games to continue producing the game. After cutting SST for like 6 months with glorious promises of pre-paints, then the debacle of BFE pre-paints, then cancelling that line, I simply didn't trust that the game would continue. My suspicions were correct: Mongoose is the Fox Network of miniatures games.

And sorry, but the game is dead. Gamers are raccoons. We like the new shiny. We like to go into the store and buy the new shiny toy. Without the new shiny toy, ACTA will be played by the same 4 guys who've known each other for 15 years and play all the dead & minor systems out there (the same 4 guys who play SFB). And yeah, I could play using cardstock against my buddy who is also a big B5 fan. But if I'm gonna do that, I'll just dust off my old BFG->B5 translation I did in 2003. And that's not exactly gonna grow the hobby.

It was nice lurking here guys, although recently I've been just waiting for the BSG fan-mod and not really intending to get into the game. Have fun guys, I'll be waiting for the announcement that the SST license is being let go.

If you dont mind.... :D

We take the blame for everything else, why not this too. Being the world's largest consumer economy isn't all it's cracked up to be sometimes... ;-)

At least I still have 6 BFG fleets that I can proxy if need be I guess. Some of the Imperial line would work fine for EA stuff, Eldar can easily do Minbari, Necrons and Shadows aren't too far off and who knows, others may convert over as well. As long as there are ships of *some* kind available the game *can* still be played if people really want to do so.

Cheers, Gary

I shudder to think what will happen if this game does indeed die......Will I have to go back to Codex Creep....... oh well at least I am getting back into Blood Bowl

Man this really sucks, but I am going to view this as an oppurtunity to buy new minatures at cheap prices. my local store has a strong following and I don't see many people dropping out.

As to the fact that MGP is dropping ACTA it's like getting shot in the leg with a musketball, you can't do much with the leg, but you can cut off before you lose the rest..... Kinda morbib but it makes sense.

I am looking forward to new books and counters..... I can see a possible futre of a ACTA in trading cards that you assemble format (such as pirates) ...

Kind of off topic but why go through the effort of designing a new rules set, fleets, and ships when the game is in essence being discontinued, er not making any more models (insert sarcasm here). Seems like a waste of time to me.
