[ACTA] Point splitting and buying up

I hadnt realised until recently quite HOW stacked the new PL split system is towards seemingly stopping you taking many smaller ships and one or two bigger ones in for example, a 1 pt armageddon game...

So I was wondering,

In said example, if you were to split 1pt armageddon down to 12 skirmish points, could you then choose to spend 4 of those skirmish points on a single battle level ship thus basically buying 1 Battle and 8 Skirmish.

By the letter of the rules it would seem no but I really dont see why you SHOULDNT be able to do this and in fact would consider it a real shame if you couldnt as it would seem to completely completely stuff certain fleets (drazi in particular come to mind....) (well maybe not screw as they can still field 12 warbirds etc but it just kills off variety if they cant take a single big ship at all)

Yeah, I don't see any reason that combining the splitting methods was disallowed... for example splitting a War into 2 Battle, and splitting one of those into 4 Skirmish. That type of split was allowed in Armageddon. But... *shrug*

Not quite what I was asking:

The question wasnt whether I can combine splitting methods but whether I can use mutlple points resulting from a split to effectively buy above the PL.

For example the list allows to split 1 arm down to 8 raid, but it also says below it that '1 war point costs 4 raid' and so on. Basically my question is whethere this is a loophole intentionally or whether its just slightly unclear wording. Im really hoping it IS allowed as it would mitigate some of the lameness of the splitting options....

The only splits are those stated. You can't re-split or buy up or exchange them for Tesco clubcard points!

Rules lawyers answer: the sentence just above the FAP splitting table on the FAQ explicitly states that you are buying ships, not points. So one Raid point buys 4 Patrol ships, not 4 Patrol points. A point can be split; a ship can't (unless you have a big welding torch).

Sadly, they effectively gave up on buying up and down and splitting, and published a list of available builds, choose from the menu, no substitutions.
