ACTA: Battlestar Galactica - Some input please...

There wouldn't really be any other examples of Galactica's class left, though. The other surviving original Battlestars were upgraded and modified as we know, so they'd need a seperate entry. Galatica-class (refit) or something like that.

The Acropolis-class IS the refitted class. The Galactica (the ship not class) is a relic that was never up-graded so will have unique rules. Hence why the ship entries are called Mercury and Acropolis not Pegasus and Galactica.

Well now Ive got some of the minis I linked earlier in this thread and I must say, the photos REALLY dont do them justice, theyre FAR more detainled than they look in the photos and I really couldnt be happier with them :) They just went from 'cool, might be worth a look if you like BSG' to WOW! BUY LOTS!!! in my eyes :)

I have ordered 3 Battlestars from Ravenstar Studios. Although they have yet to arrive. I have ordered two Armoured Battlestars and one Atlas-class Battlestar... Which is bigger than the Mercury... But what is cool is that the Atlas has recognisable turrets so it can be statted up...

The Hasbro Titanium range of Diecasts will be releasing a Pegasus model in a couple of months that hopefully fits the Ravenstar range.

Hmm not convinced by those tbh, they look a bit lacking in detail and fairly expensive too.

Seriously, I would HUGELY recommend the Bergstrom ones over those from the looks of it, theyre almost the same scale (maybe SLIGHTLY smaller (their galactica is just over 2.5" and the pegasus is just over 3"), theyre metal (which personally I FAR prefer to resin/plastic), the Cylon Basestars are actually slight smaller than Galactica (which is a shame as it would have been nice if theyd been a bit bigger but they look the part still). The Fighters, whilst not as detailed as the capital ships nonetheless look great (theyre detailedproperly, its just that fighters have plenty of flat feautureless pannels ;)

In fact the ONLY slight disapointment was the fact that the underside of the acropolis hangar pods are flat with no detail, but a thin layer of green stuff and a few minutes with a knife to add the 'ribs' and thats all sorted :). Im very very pkeased with them and looking forward to painting them when I get time :) (will post pics when done)

Of course it would be pretty limiting having essentially only 2 sides but then again thats pretty much the case with SST isnt it and that still did well enough Razz

In BSG TOS they came across a planet called Terra engaged in a civil war, consisting of the "Eastern Alliance" and the "Western Nationalists", think cold war Americans against Space Nazis basically, the modern equivalent would be North and South Korea. I hope they show up in the new show so I have somebody to root for. :D

Yeah I know the old one was "cheesy and stupid" but stuff like this makes for a more interesting game don't you think?

INteresting, I'll do some reading about them, see what could be molded into the new...

Well even if they dont appear in the new show theres no reason you cant mould them into the game.

For my part Im doing Full Thrust versions of the BSG ships and because Im using standard FT shipbuilding rules and not inventing new weapons (Ive just renamed some existing FT weapons from human and kravak ships) I can do crossovers with FT standard:

ie. The colonials finally reach earth but its not present day earth when they get there its Earth in the FT time period (FT has the advantage as well that its tech is actually very much in line with the new BSG series (missiles, gun batteries, lasers too (but theyre no more effective than kinetic weaponry)). Havent had chance to test them yet but Im pretty pleased with the feel of the ships so far (on paper at least)

Locutus - you giving the Colonials Kra'Vak guns and the Cylons LR missiles and advanced drives?

To get the Basestar fighter complement in, you are going to have some craaazy mass on their ships, same for the Battlestars. How are you going to represent the flak field on Battlestars? Scatterguns are one-use only which isn't really great, and PDS simply dont do the job IMO.

Heres the ones Im using (scroll right down to 'Galactic Battleship' etc.

(some picies of the BSG stuff from that site in the link below (though they dont really do them justice in my oppinion :))

Theres also the link in Jesters post above. Personally I think the ones Im using look nicer for the battlestars but there ARE alot of other colonial ships in Jesters link that could be good for expanding the fleet lists :)

Yes, both battlestars have enormous firepower they can throw in a variety if arcs.

Although the Pegasus should be able to kick arse, in series three she does take on 4 Basestars, destroying at least three of them
(admitadly she rammed one and exploded all over another). So In theory she should be able to go toe to toe with two of them in a less reckless and fatal fight.

Dont tell me what happens

Don't worry if you havent't seen it yet what I wrote just doesn't do the series justice. It will still rock!

And rock it did sir! I would say that episode equalled if not surpassed the shootyness of Babylon 5 8)

I'm very interested in this, love the new series and have some of the Bregstrom minis on order.

One thing I've missed...in the ACtA rules mod, what in the initiative modifier for the Colonial and Cylon fleets? Do they have any?

Neither side has an initiative mod as both side showed equal ability to ambush and generally cause havock.

I also purchased some of Studio Bergstroms "Columbia" class Battlestars and old style Basestars. The old style Basestar was shown in the Galactica Museum so it is a Viable model for old action. So humming the old Galactica Tune I submit the following for discussion:
