I don't think heavy raiders are shown to use missiles in the show (yet) - only their rapid firing autocannons.

Missed this first time round, but as proof of the fact that they do in the episode where the Chief, Baltar, etc are stuck on Kobol the Centurions are setting up a surface to air missile launcher using the sensors and missiles from their Heavy Raider.

Plus what Cylon ship would (in this series at least) be seen dead without some form of missiles...

*edit: The episode was Fragged.

A dead one .... wander if we get to see the old modles "Centurion"

They did have some if teh old Cylon Centurions in the mini-series in the Galactica museum... Although I think that was more of a tie in to the old series than a serious look into the past of the new series...

Just noticed looking through the latest version and dont know if its a new adition or not but: Just noticed the Acropolis class has flight computer. Now I know the ship obviously has computers but the point of the flight computer trait is to represent ships that are sufficiently automated that they can still run fully with minimal crew.

Correct me if Im wrong but the whole point with the Acropolis class (well at least in Galactica's case) was that they WERENT all automated and networked. Simply put I think the FC should be dropped (absolutely should be kept on the newer Battlestars though).

The only other thing I would suggest is either make the Cylon Basestar War level and adjust its toughness acrodingly or make the Mercury class War. Having the Mercury class 2 whole PL higher than the Acropolis doesnt sit right for me somehow.

ps. Carrier 1 is a nonexistent trait. Carrier = how many flights you can launch in a turn not how many EXTRA flights. If you want the acropolis to be able to launch 2 per turn give it carrier 2 as carrier 1 adds nothing to it under ACTA rules :)

The Galactica had no networked computers because Adama (and presumably previous commanders refused to have them on the ship), it was implied that other ships were upgraded to include networking to bring them in line with more modern ships.

Obviously if the Glactica is being represented then she will have no Flight Computer, plus one less Viper squadron...

Well Id still suggest dropping the FC as I still dont see most battlestars running normally while skeleton crewed, Im even dubious about giving it to the Mercury class tbh though they do specifically state that its got all sorts of new advanced automation that allows it to run with less crew so its concieveable. As for Galactica herself, I might even go so far as to impose a QC penalty for some special orders due to lack of computer networking etc (but make it immune to Cylon virus attack if any rules for it should be made in future)

Where'd you get Acropolis-class for the Galactica and her sister ships? I'm certain the class name is never stated for the original battlestars.

If you wanted to devise a name, Colonial-class or perhaps Caprica-class would be appropriate.

Acropolis was one of the Battlestars in the original series.

I suspect that's why he used it. The favoured fan name for the original series appears to be Columbia-class...

Hi guys,

Good catch with the Carrier trait... I'll sort that.

The Galactica was the only Battlestar with un-networked computers. All the other older hulls had been de-comission or re-fitted with the same technology of the newer ships. Essentially automating many of the ships function and reducing the crew needed to pilot them by at least a half. For example the Pegasus is almost double the size of the galactica but has half the crew.

As for the Acropolis-class... You are right that it was never given a name, neither show has ever named the class. I wanted to give the class a name that wasn't to 20th century so Columbia and Atlantia were out and Acropolis sounded cool. 8)

Is there any data as to which of the original 12 Battlestars was built first? Cos surely that would be the class name. Though for that matter in the original series you could assume that 'Battlestar' is class name (ie Battlestar Class Starship). But in the new series Battlestar defintely refers to a general class of heavy warship and they specifically name the Mercury class so lacking anything more concrete Acropolis class is as good as any :)

In the miniseries it's stated that Galactica represented Caprica, and we know from other statements that Caprica was the seat of the government. So it's conceivable that Galactica was the first ship to be launched.

yes spot on

Unfortunately Galactica is the only Battlestar named that we know for sure belongs to that class, therefore which one came first is a matter of conjecture...

However there are two ways of looking at the fact that the Galactica is still (just) in service but unupgraded. Either she remains because she was one of the newer of the original 12...

Or she was kept for more sentimental reasons because she was the first Battlestar (would also explain why she was selected to become the museum, although that could be because she was only unupgraded one left...).

apparently in one photoshoot for some of the cast you can see on a console in CIC the words 'galactica class' but I havent seen this myself. Personally Id go with Galactica class anyway though :)

Let's face it, it's the coolest name yet suggested, and ties neatly in with the info we have.

As for why Galactica was chosen to become the museum ship, it could be any number of reasons. Because she represented Caprica, the capital world, because she took part in some famous action or other in the Cylon War, because she was the first Battlestar to be launched, because she was the last of the original twelve Battlestars to be launched, or the last surviving in their original form... We just don't know.

It is because of this conjecture that I chose Acropolis. I think it sound cool, cooler in fact than Galactica. Also for a more logical reason it does create a discearnable difference between the Battlestar Galactica and her class. It defines both as seperate units.
