AA-12 Combat Shotgun

That it is a shotgun.
Not a big deal. Lots of marine units still use them. (As do army I assume)

There was a bias against them when I was in the service, or at least as an common arm of the Army and the Corp. Mind you I was in the Navy, the 12 gauge and .38 were the firearms I used the most.

Hey, I defer to someone with actual experience :P I just know they still get used sometimes.
What did you serve on?

I was mostly in the Brown Water Navy, but I did a stint on a Aircraft Carrier as well, over 20 years ago.... I must in all honesty point out that my Lady Friend is much better with a rifle than I am, but she was a Marine. We compared shooting scores and hers with a rifle pretty much doubled mine. So there is probably a strong reason for my preference of shorter ranged firearms. Though I must say when it came down to M2HB we are about equal. I was a Boatswain's Mate/Coxswain not a Gunner's Mate

But the emphasis for the the arms with infantry was all about the the open field and riflery, not close dank spaces like inside ships and slums. That has since changed, though the shotgun of choice is pretty much the same.

Still the mossberg right?

Well with a little Google-Fu the Mossberg is still in service as the pump gun.
But the core "officially" adopted a Semi-Automatic, the Benelli M4 Super 90 Combat Shotgun.

As for the USN, there will be Mossberg's in ship's armories for decades to come, or to put this way USN still stocks said armories with M14s (the Army discontinued general issue of the M14 in 1970 (And the M14 is what I did my rifle quals with in the late 80s).

Sounds like this should be added to CSC - http://www.gizmag.com/aa-12-combat-shotgun-frag-12-automatic/11393/

There are some video's on Youtube as well that show this in action. It's definitely a ammo hog, but would suck to be on the receiving end.

There was a Automatic Shotgun in Striker, which was an essentially similar weapon. Pretty sure it makes an appearance in MegaTraveller as well, but I can't remember what other editions incorporate it.
