A question for players

Mongoose
I am curious as to how many players have tried to come up with their own scenarios?

Asking since I have had some ideas, and am curious. thanks.

I like to invent or play in one off scenarios.

The first SST game I ran was a scenario to protect a handful of civillians during an Evac of a colony under attack.

Another scenario was Mobile Infantry trying to hold a perimeter within a base under attack.

I played Bugs in a scenario that was the interception of a troop train.

My last big game ran was a Mobile Infantry mission to take out two well protected Plasma Bugs.

I'm running a big game next weekend with another GM that will be a huge attack to take out a Bug Central.

I rarely do scenarios actually.
I probably should but to be honest we only really have a bug player and a skinnie player which doesnt make for great scenarios really.

Interesting.

Well, for skinnie and bug, well, you could try various of trying to escape, or escorting civilians.

Also, GOldwyrm, may I ask how those scenarios went?

I will admit I have had some thoughts for scenarios that inolve bugs trying to attack an escpaing cilician colony/convoy as well. Although, most likely the choices choosen would have to be considered, no?

Also, any place to give out ideas or thoughts on updrages for models, and the like? most likely for specialized scenarios?

Like say prototype marauader suits adn the like?

I was thinking of doing something with the Rebel forces from S&P38. Rather than representing folk rebelling against the Federation (which never rang true) I want to use them as civilians

Examples would be the settlers at Fort Joseph Smith (massacred by bugs in the film) or the colonists on LV-426 fighting aliens.

First scenarios involve raising the alarm :
-first with the colony (set of miners vs a unit or two of warriors? - maybe using a mining machine (a marauder with-cut down weapons choice - images of Ripley with loadlifter fighting the Alien Queen),
-then alert the Federation (bug attack on the encampment).

This will escalate to a full blown invasion by the MI to remove the bug infestation.

I like that idea, Mr. Benn.

MAybe outfit the cut maurader with two trenchsweeper lasers that have a range of 12 inches to represent the laser cutters?
an M8 marauder as the base. and maybe give it piercing 1 or 2 to represent the drills it could use in close combat?

Of course, reduce it to 2 or 3 hits, and remove or limit the jump ability?

Maybe an evacuation or convoy scenario, where you need to bring your units past a bug blockade to get to the miners?

Also, have had an idea for a modified M8C marauder. A laser armed experimental version.

**MI destroyed the Bugs because I didn't give the Bugs tunnel assets. First game and I learned my lesson.

Another scenario was Mobile Infantry trying to hold a perimeter within a base under attack.

**A big slayfest. The Bugs broke through the perimeter but the support missiles saved the day killing the King Tanker. The Brain Bug died to a Rupture from the Sicon Agent. (original rules, not MI army book). Lots of death, mostly Bugs. It was a nailbiter though because a Tanker and KingTanker almost got inside and the MI and LAMI had nowhere to go..

I played Bugs in a scenario that was the interception of a troop train.

**I pulled out all the Bug tricks, mostly Hopper ambushes at the right time to get back into concealment. The other player had a lapse and jumped right next to a hole with a unit of Warriors underground and the tanker bug crawled up the train to use its stream attack on the MI on the top of the train.

My last big game ran was a Mobile Infantry mission to take out two well protected Plasma Bugs.

** Ran this twice at a convention (look for Bug Canyon in the archived topics). Bugs lost in a close game in the first battle. Second game some players stayed to play again, learned from their mistakes and the MI didn't have a good day.

Ahh.
Those were interesting. And I am sure that next time, those scenarios will be better, no?

Sure. Only a scenario with surprises needs to be reworked for replay. Stuff we play locally is usually GM run which allows for surprises, hidden forces, etc. depending on a scenario. In the one battle to keep the Bugs out of the perimeter there were two things that would need to be changed in a replay. First was that the MI had just landed at a pre-existing base and didn't realize they could activate the bases weapons or man the reliant platforms unless they looked around or tried. There was also an Infiltrator Bug that started hidden in the complex. A second time around and those little plot hooks would have been less effective or metagamed.

Yeah. that makes sense.
maybes make it so that some reliants are then unoperational, or worse, so damaged they explode when used?

maybe hide a few control bugs then, or a few hidden tankers, like say a tanker inside a building?it can burst through the door perhaps?

Can I get some feedback on this? a floating idea in my head. would like your opinion. thanks.

One of my small skirmishes involved a squad of lami sneaking into the ruins of an overrun MI encampment to steal extra supplies and loot things. I was thinking of using this as one of the smaller games for a campaign I was planning for when I got more bugs to actually pit my MI against. The idea was a rag-tag group of MI are part of an expeditionary fleet that eventually started colonizing a small planet which I was calling Reach, until they were cut off from rescue and had to regroup with other stragglers and civs to try and create some kind of strong point to hold out on untill a response group could reach Reach(haha pun).

Oh and in regards towards the civilian M8 I was thinking more of a chicken hawk, it seems more like a colony would use it instead(and I'm not saying that because of utility claws). I was thinking of making a civilian chicken hawk myself, but haven't gotten around to it.

Ahhh. that makes sense.

And a M9 or M9 variant might be better, yeah. Will have to think.

Although, with Reach, I think Halo for some reason.
