5pts of Raid Shadows.

From reading the thread 'Shadow Fighter's shields: totally useless, after all!' there may be some changes for the shields on the Shadow Fighters. This has got me thinking.

Would Shadow players take more of these in low Priority Level games to as Matt say 'Swarm enemy capital ships'?

If the shields are changed to work against (A)AF the only problem I can see for the Shadow Fighters are enemy fighters, which the Shadows have the perfect answer to I think.

The Shadow Scout ship.

It's gun may be short ranged, but packs enough firepower to destroy full wings of fighters, thanks to it's Accurate weapon trait. Plus it is quite hard to take out.

So in a 5pts Raid game I was thinking about the following.

16 Shadow Fighter Wings. 32 flights in total.
Shadow Scout.
Shadow Scout.

Keep the Shadow Fighters in Hyperspace, use the Shadow Scouts to destroy or bait the enemy's fighters. Use Hyperspace Mastery to have all the Shadow Fighters launch their attacks on the enemy ships.

Woulkd this work?

due to the short range of the shadow scouts gun and the fact that fighters always move last this really isnt going to work. that plus the fact the enemy only have 2 targets to line up all their ships against.

you would really need less fighters and more scouts, prolly would also want to keep a scout or 2 in hyperspace to land behind the enemy...

We have been playing with the Shields working agasint AF and the guy in our group is using 8 Fighters stands, 2 Scouts, ands 1 Stalker. so far h e has won 2 games against the Brakir and Minbari last night. The fighters took out a Torotha, but then the 2 Nials got inot the fight and took the Shadow fighters out.

Which raised a quesiton about Shields and dogfighting - how would the shields work?

short answer - they don't

At present the shields only work against normal guns not antifighter and not in dogfights.

5 pt Raid I would go with 5 Scouts - especially against someone lilke Minbari, Earth or Centauri who will consider your fighters little more than target drones for their own fighters

The Shadow Scout ships are really mean to be decoys, that and aim to reduce the number of enemy fighters. The Shadow Fighters are the real punch of the army. Would it be better to take 3 Scotships and less fighters?

I could drop one raid point of fighters and take a Scout ship. Keep 2 of the Scout ships and the Fighters in Hyperspace, then I could drop the 2 Scout ships from Hyperspace first with the aim to take out the enemy fighters, then once they have been dealt with, I could drop in the Fighters and bomb the enemy ships.

Why not take a Stalker?

I was thinking of this, but they have a high PL, and they aren't as good as Scouts are at destroying off Fighters.

if shadow scouts manage to kill any fighters either by coming in from hyperspace or not then your opponent isnt very good. even kothas can keep out of range of the accurate shadow scout guns.

Well there goes that plan

Guess I'll just have to play against bad players

stalker has beam weapon hitting on "4+" 10/5 Shields SR 1D6 and a hull of 6

True, but a Beam doesn't ignore Fighters Dodge, which tend to be quite good.

does it really matter about shooting fighters out the air. Shadows are good at beaming things to death and running repairing doing it again and jumping out. It may be nice once in a while to try something new but to play with a fleet in a manner opposite to how it is designed to play; your just going to loose. That said it should be fun to watch.
