5 point Raid Centauri Fleet

I thought I'd throw this out there for comments. I primarily play EA: Crusade, but find my fleet a bit wanting with this new edition. I thought I'd try something different, so here it is for review.

2 x Elutarian
5 x Demos
2 x Sentri Wings (split the last raid point down to 1 Skirmish and 2 Patrol).

Obviously the basic theme is torpedoes....lots and lots of torpedoes. I'm hoping that the Elutarians can sit back and deal ranged damage to the enemy fleet while the Demos constantly advance and use their torps and ion cannon to put a serious hurting on the enemy. I also considered dropping one Elutarian for another two Demos...

What do you all think?

I like it. In my few games so far in 2ed, The Elutarian and Demos are my two favorite ships. The fighters give you some nice defensive options. Should do really well.

You might consider a pair of Corvan instead of some Demos to provide some Stealth counter, targeting, init control, jump targeting, etc.

I'm thinking about using this as my 10-point Battle campaign fleet.

1 Octurian 2BP
2 Secundus 2BP
4 Elutarian 2BP
14 Demos 3.5BP
2 Corvan .5BP

Looks like I can buy 2 fleet boxes and have most of the fleet. I'm going to be using Centurians as the Altarian hull, because I dislike the Altarian model and don't see myself ever using Centurians (and if I do, I'll use a Sulust hull for that).

I don't like the raid fleet, too reliant on slow-loading torps. Drop 4 of the Demos for Vorchans and swap an Elutarian for an Altarian or Centurion and you'll be a lot better off my in opinion.

I have to agree with LDTD - much too reliant on interceptable, slow loading torpedoes. While it is a nice addition having a long range bombardment option in the new Centauri fleet, you are then minimising the usefulness of your main weaponry - close range Ion Cannons and Matter Cannons.

With your Raid fleet, I'd definitely drop out 3 Demos for other things, either Vorchans or Darkners (to maintain that at range feel). And I'd consider switching an Elutarian for an Altarian, Magnus or Sullust.

I'd also do similar with the some of the Elutarians and Demos in the Campaign fleet. But I'd definitely swap an Elutarian for a Balvarin and maybe spend 2 patrol/1 Skirmish point on upping half its fighters to Rutarians (any ISDs allowing).

With their advanced missile racks and plentiful interceptors crusade era EA is simply better at long range bombardment than Centauri. If you realy want to go for this fleet you're going to need to listen to DB and put a few Maximus' in there.

I like it, never tried to use fighter wings so far, that might be something i should do :)

Next time i play centauri i'll try this fleet :

1 Primus
1 Balvarin
2 Vorchan
1 Corvan (or 1 Maximus i'm still not sure)
2 Sentri Wings

I wouldnt go too overboard on fighter wings as youll often find theyre not REALLY worth it however if youve got a spare patrol point or two they CAN be very useful if youre short on fighter cover etc in your fleet.

You don't need a skirmish point of fighters as well as the Primus' and Balvarin's compliments. Spend the point on a Vorchan, you don't have enough.

Aye, hadnt noticed what youd actually taken shipwise. I'd only take independant fighter wings if I was seriously lacking in fighter cover in a fleet, if I already had a carrier then Id would spend the point on more ships. Id drop the 2 sentri wings and take either antoehr Vorchan, a Demos, or a Maximus. Out of the options Id probably go with the Demos. But then I LIKE Demoses.

EDIT: Or a Darkner. Its got a very nasty beam for a skirmish ship ;)

similar to my selection but I am going with Liati instead of Primus (and some free Rutarians) and Demos instead of Vorchan - I prefer them:) plus Maximus and Corvan

Well agains the Narn It didn't survive but it did do its job - its fast enough to keep up with my Demos squadron and draw fire from them whilst dealing it out. Against the Minbari and their beaminess - dodge is so much more useful than stealth beacause Hello there says Mr Leshath :D

I don't like your RAID fleet much... sorry.

Just like everyone else has been saying - it relies too much on a weapon that shoots once every two turns... or a fleet in which only half can fire in any one turn.

My 5 point RAID fleet looks like this:

1 Balvarin
1 Centaurian
3 Vorchans
2 Demos
1 Maximus

The Balvarin and Maximus hang back, sending whatever fighters need to be sent while the Centaurian strikes PATROL level ships and the Vorchan/Demos smacks RAID and BATTLE ships about.

note: I haven't had the chance to try it out, so at the moment this is all conceptual.
