3rd Space

In Mar this year there was a thread kicked off by Talonspirit on Third Space ships. in the thread the challenge was made to model a third space cruiser.

Never could resist a challenge;

And a size comparison with a "Furies" I painted way back in the early days of CTA. Notice how those Third Space devils have cunningly approached just off bore, little do they know of TTT. Oh wait!!!

At one point in the constuction I considered copying Burger and lighting up the central sphere and with a fibre optic to the blue power crystal. It would have been easy, ....... maybe too easy, .... maybe it would act as a beacon to the eldrich powers, ....... maybe next time, if my sanity holds out.

The scratchbuild is 160mm long, deliberately bigger than a Vorlon Hvy Cruiser. Central spheres are Acrylic hemispheres in three diameters. Purple is a mix of Valio transparent red & blue Blue effect is Valio transparent blue over a construct made from 1mm acrylic rod.

very cool...out of interest do any rules exist anywhere for third space ships?

If Kickaha sent in an article to S&P detailing just how to scratchbuild this ship, we would do rules for it!

Thanks for the comments guys.

Just disappearing on a long weekend, (local holiday). Woo Hoo!!!

Guess I will be spending some of the time, starting on a write up for S&P.

Also some more Balosians to finish and a couple of Drazi to finish for the paint guide thread.

Well, that totally blows my pathetic attempt away.

Can't wait to see the instructions for this beauty.

Sounds like another challenge?

Funnily enough despite having the Third Space DVD for quite a few years now it was only during my research on the cruiser that I finally noticed that the body of the fighters was leaf shaped i.e only covered one side of the ship and the other, missing, side reveals has some type of "black hole" type power source at the rear.

Fiirst a write up then a try at a fighter.

Thanks for the advice Shadow Queen.

Already planned out.

Of course I did'nt expect to build another, certainly so soon, so I have had to order up some more hemispheres.

I am also working on a low budget version and also modifying some of the build steps I used to make them more easier if you are new to scratchbuilding.

I already keep build notes on all of the scratchbuilds I make, so when I have the new bits in a week or so the first written draft will be ready and I will only need to take the photos as I build the second model. Should take about 2.5 to 3 weeks before I can submit the article.
