3rd Imperium Line

I have a funny feeling I am getting my hopes up way too high!

Depends on what you are hoping for.

But yes there are big things being worked on. But I don't know what the timeline is for any announcements.

I'll throw more fuel on the rumor fire. In ADB's Communique #115 last month, they had this to say regarding the Mongoose Traveller version of Prime Directive:

"We are currently on hold in conversions of the four Prime Directive books to Mongoose Traveller waiting for revised rules from Mongoose."

Sounds like a new version perhaps?

Yeah, ADB made mention of that here: http://forum.mongoosepublishing.com/viewtopic.php?p=872341#p872341

It was Matt saying "few weeks" or similar that kinda pushed me to thinking it was about to happen.

But really, who knows?

I would be very sad to hear that. I just elected to get into Mongoose Traveller and dropped over $100 on books. To find out they are all outdated in less than a month would be quite a major bummer. :|

The books are still good. Compatibility with the existing books was a "thing" that Matthew wanted when this was first talked about.

This isn't D&D, for the most part the books will still be useful. Think of it more like D&D 3.0 - 3.5.

Andrew, your profile is minimal and I don't know you're level of involvement with Mongoose but you keep replying with these tidbits regarding what if anything, is to be released by Mongoose.

Forgive me if I should know who you are but I don't, can you please explain where you get your info from and why it should be taken seriously? (Tho in fairness, you say so little but hint a lot so I don't think taking it "seriously" is the right word)

Could be! Any idea how long RPG Suite has been "coming soon"?

Thanks for the link, one to watch for sure!

It always has that problem with new editions being announced. I’m not sure that is what is being announced, but even if it is, it’s not likely to mean a major rules overhaul. Maybe a few tweaks perhaps, but there are few people complaining about the rules. The major criticism simply lies in interior design and layout - so this could possibly be updated.

I think, however, it’s more likely to be a big rules free Guide to the Imperium or such (akin to the Guide to Glorantha) and/or a miniatures game and/or some electronic app or the like.

The rpgsuite thing looks interesting - colour me excited. :)

I am involved with some of the Mongoose Publishing Traveller material before it gets released, including but not limited to doing some work on some of the products.

As for taking it seriously that would be up to you. As for not giving much information, it's up to msprange when he wants to release more information.

The app shows a rule spoiler in it. But a playtest is coming out soon anyway.

Boon and bane rolls? And possibly using more than two d6's for task resolution?

I never said it was D&D. But to be honest I would have been unhappy had I spent about $100 on D&D 3.0 to have 3.5 announced a few weeks later.

To be clear, I realize there comes a time in the life of a game it needs a reboot. But that does not help me feel any better.

If I wanted to spend time "updating and adjusting" I could have just pulled out my old CT stuff.

There's "more than enough" material produced already to keep a group running Mongoose Traveller going for a long time!

There's a whole heap of stuff in Foreven and the Gypsy Knight Games settings you can run that while it's not Third Imperium I was looking forward to running the Clement Sector as it seems well thought out and detailed and to be honest, the production values seem to me to be as good or better than Mongoose.

I really would not stress about the possible redundancy of the books you've just bought.

We don't yet know what Mongoose are going to release, ya never know, it may be better or worse than what's already available and it might never happen!

I am in the same boat having spent over $300 in the last couple of years, the real problem is that if they change things and then don't still offer the old rules. It is concerning.

I think this proves there is a market for "bridger" books that bridge the gap(s) between the old rules and the new rules.

I've not added up what I've spent. It's probably best to leave it that way.

If the new can address my issues with the old I'll be pleased.

As I still don't know what or when anything is being released, I'm not allowing myself to detract from the games I have on the boil at the moment. Well, not much anyway...
