3rd Imperium Line

There's nothing stopping anyone from using whatever material they already have. Most stuff will be perfectly useable with either the old or new stuff.

With the D&D reference, just meant it isn't like the change from say D&D 3.5 to 4th edition, where the majority of old stuff you already had is all changed and not that useful with the new stuff.

Oh I understand that, trust me when I say I have played many games using what I already owned. For me, the sad part was the idea of the timing. If I owned this for years than I would not be as sad because I had time to get my money's worth out of them playing. :D

But in the end, I will get over it and move forward either way.

Got it, I misread your comment. I get the meaning now.

I am in the same boat having spent over $300 in the last couple of years, the real problem is that if they change things and then don't still offer the old rules. It is concerning.
I think this proves there is a market for "bridger" books that bridge the gap(s) between the old rules and the new rules.

Depends on what is in the new rules. With a game in progress, learning new rules isn't an exciting prospect. At this point in life, time and energy are more limited than funds, I still buy only what I think I can use.

I know what there is another market for, one shot adventures, like the old doubles.

Looking over the site, I’d say that a) It’s 100% confirmed that a new edition is coming, b) It looks quite backwards compatible (they advertise current supplements and sourcebooks) but with some add-on rules (bonus/penalty dice) and c) there looks to be a massive lift in visual appearance.

It’s been 7 years since the game was released, and the market has changed since. I welcome a new edition - and I’m hopeful for what else it’ll bring.

Where are you finding this?

Take a run through the chargen pages and so on, it gives a few hints. I also signed up as a playtester, wherein it asked me what my favourite versions of Traveller are, from a list …….including Mongoose Traveller 2nd edition (2015)……

Oh, ok. I thought you meant the Mongoose site confirmed a new edition of Traveller.
The rpgsuite stuff looks pretty, but I won't call that proof of Mongoose Traveller 2nd Ed being imminent. A very strong hint, but not yet a sure thing.

They wouldn’t have been able to do all that without permission from the licence holder - Mongoose - and the listing of Mongoose Traveller 2nd Edition (2015) in their beta testing survey was explicit.

It’s happening.

It would also explain the lack of new releases outwith the recent PDFs which are pretty generic.

Well... I'm interested. Here are some observations as a Mg Traveller GM who has multiple copies of the Core Rule Book because all my players are casual players and just join in when I'm running a scenario.

Quality Control. I like the idea of releasing works as PDFs, getting feedback and then coming up with a more polished version. Its easier to update PDFs than paper copies. Personally I buy paper copies of Traveller books, taking advantage of Bits and Mortar for those occasions where a PDF is more useful.

How will MgT 2nd Edition affect my ability as a MgT 1st Edition GM to run scenarios?

Will I need to replace all my copies of the CRB? Will it be possible to do a bulk purchase of MgT 2nd Edition?

During the development of 2nd edition of Mercenary, Matt was pretty open about the fact that they are looking at a second edition of the core rulebook with more integrated rules from the additions.

I don't know how completely backwards compatible it will be, but I would at least expect them to give you guidance on how to upgrade/change your setting/characters/equipment to the new rules.

Among things being openly discussed:
1. Integrated Build system that would go from Vehicles to Small Craft to Starships (hopefully seamlessly).
2. Integrated weapon damage tables and a more integrated use of ammunition (armour piercing etc.)

I don't think there will be too much problems of backwards compatibility - it'll be more a case of tweaking or developing what they've already got I think, and they won't be wanting to discard or revise through all the available sourcebooks they've made.

It'd be too expensive and time consuming, while resources could be used much better on creating new things.....like computer apps and miniatures for example....as well as finishing off stuff like the Alien modules or releasing new settings and campaigns. Indeed, we are hopefully going to get some announcement on all their plans soon - but a number have been mooted before and are worth looking forward to.
