2E Worth it?

yes its worth it, for most part its better (apart from few peoples problems with swarms which i dont have a problem with).

It think it's still way to early to say. I tend to not make opinions on something until I've got it in my hands.

If you're unsure, wait, at least, until it's officially released and people have actual copies of the final product.

And, if possible, pick it up at your LGS and thumb through it before you buy it.

well you got a thread thats about the breakdowns which is mainly the swarm problem i mentioned.
then you have the one about boxsets which is nothing to do with the rules (aaprt from breakdown messed them up).
any more complaints about the actual game?
nope, just ones aboutbook quality so guess we all good.

I'll reserve judgement until I play a game of 2nd edition - but I like the changes I've seen so far.
The discussions about book quality are a little disturbing though - mongoose just recently started doing book printing in house, so it may be a 'teething period' for lack of a better term.

I have an order for the rulebook and fleet book in with my preferred supplier... if I'm disappointed, I'll send it back and ebay the fleet I have. Not the end of the world...

I have had a good read i=of the rules over that last few days and really... the game has not changed all that much. It is still the ACTA you all started playing in times gone by.

Great game - shame about some of the production values - but I am very happy with the rules...............especially now its all in one place (the rules anyway)

Hopefully the looks will also improve to match the content.

couldn't tell with all the threads around here

The Internet is never a good place to make a decent judge of a product, as happy customers are rarely as vocal as naysayers and "squeaky wheels".

This is not to say that some people do not have legitimate complaints, it is just hard to tell what is realistically a problem and what is just internet paranoia.

I would say check it out; I really like what we came up with for this edition.

Cheers,
Bry

Yeah, aside from the uber-swarm issues, it's actually a really good product :)

Still reading the copy I picked up at the open day...

But so far looks pretty good, like the new look Centauri - no more beam team.

Probably give them a try this coming weekend, especially if my fleet book negotiates the Bermuda Triangle that is the Royal Mail. :D

Interested to see the New ISA stuff (Obviously) as well as the Earthers and Narn.

As you can see I have a thing for the Notional 'Good Guys'

Um and the Dilgar (well no ones perfect...)

But the new stealth rules look interesting, fighters are simpler, and now give you an interesting tactical dilemma (especially for non interceptor races)
I think - subject to playing - I like things so far

The rules are great. They resolve a great many issues players had with the first edition, as well as clarify a number of things. They bring in a number of new things and make the fleets closer to what we see on screen.

Don't be put off by the complaints about the appearance of the book (after all you should never judge a book by its cover :) ) or the problems with the fleet boxes.

Granted, we're talking now about some of the things we listed in concerns. But, also not talked about here, is a section in our report that we called "Raves".

They included:
-- A less-dominating criticals chart
-- All Hands on Deck!
-- Much clearer rules, the highlight of which is a good Interceptor explanation
-- Death of the Beam Team (almost all the Centauri, save the Vorchan, Mograth, Demos, and Centurion)
-- A reasonable (non-overgunned) Targrath
-- Hull 4 improvement
-- Carriers that don't s.... er, stink
-- Even some of the bad Refits & Duties were tuned (Keeper was WAY too much)
-- End of the unnecessary Ancient damage system

These are just a few of the good things. Now, we used to have some things that we hated, too --- being able to fire during All Stop and Pivot -- that have since been changed (as I understand it) pre-release.

We can hope that some of the rest have been as well, but I don't know for sure -- I haven't gotten my 2E copy yet. I remain hopeful, and given the statement above; I already, subconsciously, know what I'll be doing when copy finally arrives stateside.

It seems no one is really happy with 2E.

Got to disagree old fellow; I played my 3rd game last night and it is still getting better. The basic rules are much the same, but with some tweaks for the better and improved clarification. The new style to the Centauri fleet has revived my interest in what was a rather boring fleet. In fact my only gripe is that the fleet books we were told we could buy at the open day still haven't been printed so I have been unable to try out different fleets.

All in all 9 out of 10 for content
4 out of 10 for quality (dodgy printing and grammatical errors).

I would agree with this. from what i've seen of the rules (playing my first proper game against Digger tomorrow), the content has done a good job of bringing all the rules into line.

Book quality, going on the sample i've seen, very shoddy and I will most likely just get the pdf.

you can still use one weopon system in all stop and pivot in the 2e rules though
Hoorah for the 10 Sag fleet, they don't have to worry about Come About rolls to use their other broadside any more :)
